Long, Clark lead NB to first 3-0 start in two decades

N. BALTIMORE 47 ELGIN 6 NORTH BALTIMORE – Luke Long threw for 359 yards, Cooper Clarks had 210 yards receiving, and North Baltimore trounced Elgin in its Northwest Central Conference opener, 47-6. Long also ran for 53 yards, giving the North Baltimore quarterback more than 400 yards of offense. The win moved the Tigers to 3-0, their best start since 2005. They will look to go 4-0 next when they play Cory-Rawson. Brody Walter ran for 92 yards in North Baltimore's victory, while Isaiah Hyden hauled in a 49-yard touchdown pass from Long. PATRICK HENRY 26 COL. GROVE 21 HAMLER – Cal Schroeder ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns, and Patrick Henry knocked off Columbus Grove, 26-21, in Hamler. Schroeder's second touchdown – a 13-yard jaunt with 56 seconds left in regulation -- put the Patriots up 26-14. Columbus Grove made things tight just 23 seconds later when Landon Best connected with Gavin Baxter on a 59-yard touchdown, but Patrick Henry held on to start 3-0. Columbus Grove – a state semifinalist a season ago – dropped to 0-3. Patrick Henry quarterback Tristen Rosenbrook finished 13 of 22 passing for 128 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His 13-yard touchdown pass to Reid Creager broke a scoreless tie with 3:58 left in the first quarter, and Patrick Henry carried that 7-0 advantage into halftime. Columbus Grove tied the game early in the second half on a 44-yard Brody McClure touchdown run. But Patrick Henry came back with an 8-yard TD rush by Schroeder and a 3 yard touchdown run by Jaidan Rutter, which made it 20-7 late in the third. Columbus Grove rallied with 8:52 to go in the fourth quarter, when Gavin Barraza hauled in a 20 yard pass from Best. Best finished 8 of 19 passing for 150 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. McClure had 16 carries for 87 yards, and Trevon Baxter had four receptions for 96. Columbus Grove will enter NWC play next week when it hosts Spencerville. Patrick Henry will be home against Bryan. LEIPSIC &emsp;&emsp;30 ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;14 BLOOMDALE – Sophomore quarterback Marc Kirkendall threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns in leading Leipsic to a 30-14 win over Elmwood in Friday's Blanchard Valley Conference opener. Kirkendall completed 22-of-39 passes for the 3-0 Vikings. He tossed 23- and 13-yard TD passes to Avery Paris (10 receptions, 120 yards) and a 4-yarder to Aaron Hazelton as Leipsic jumped ahead 18-0 at the half. Preston Schroeder and Marquise Williams (15 carries, 98 yards) added short TD runs in the second half. Elmwood scored all of its points in the game's final seven minutes on a 17-yard pass from Braxton Simon to Marcus Mossburger and McCoy Morlock's 1-yard run. Quarterback Keegan Dunn went 7-of-10 on passes for 55 yards and a touchdown, adding 40 rushing yards on seven carries. Kasen Gottfried scored a TD on the ground, rushing for 31 yards. Josh Heilman (24 yards) and Caine Roupe (45 yards) both caught touchdown passes.The Rams, now up to 1-2 with the victory, host Carey next week at 7 p.m. ARCADIA 32RIVERDALE 13MOUNT BLANCHARD– Arcadia came back from a 6-0 deficit early to defeat Riverdale 32-13 in Blanchard Valley Conference play on Friday.Riverdale's Grant Inbody found receiver Cale Young for a 42-yard pass early to give the Falcons a 6-0 lead going into the second quarter. Inbody also ran in a 95-yard QB keeper in the fourth quarter.Arcadia quarterback Nick Moes notched three rushing touchdowns, including one for 47 yards. Running back Lamarion Tucker recorded a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, a 3-yarder and a 30-yarder, to seal the win for the Redskins. Arcadia (2-1) hosts BVC foe McComb on Friday, while Riverdale (0-3) travels to Liberty-Benton to face the reigning league-champ, unbeaten Eagles. KENTON 38O-GLANDORF 27KENTON– Kenton's new freshman quarterback led it to a 38-27 WBL victory over Ottawa-Glandorf on Friday evening.Xavier Gammon, in his first start for the Wildcats, completed 35 of his 44 passes, throwing for 507 yards and three touchdowns, and rushing for 93 yards. Titans QB Carson Yeager threw for 173 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 72 yards and two more scores. Asher Rump ran for 115 yards and a touchdown. BUREN 7PANDORA– Pandora-Gilboa improved to 2-1, getting back in the win column with a dominant 42-7 BVC victory over Van Buren on Friday. Rockets QB Corey Gerten threw four touchdown passes in Friday's win, connecting with sophomore Zahnder Boggs twice, on a 30-yard pass and an 11-yard one. Gerten also found senior Landen Moore on a 12-yard completion, and senior Ben Burkholder on an 11-yard dime. Burkholder also ran in a 59-yard touchdown. Van Buren's senior quarterback Brady Lance tossed it to senior receiver Alex Homan for the Black Knights' five-yard touchdown.The Rockets, 2-1 after the win, host the 3-0 Leipsic Vikings on Friday in a BVC contest. Van Buren, now 1-2, travels to Arlington for a BVC game with the undefeated Redskins. H. NORTHERN 8C-RAWSON 0RAWSON– Hardin Northern pulled out an 8-0 victory over Cory-Rawson on the road Friday.Senior Kyler Sedlock notched 107 yards on 19 carries, scoring the Polar Bears' lone TD. Hardin Northern is now 1-2, and is set to host Waynesfield-Goshen on Friday, while the 0-3 Hornets travel to North Baltimore, taking on the unbeaten Tigers in an NWCC matchup. BLUFFTON 54TOL. BOWSHER 21TOLEDO– Bluffton jumped out to an early lead to defeat Toledo Bowsher 54-21 on the road. The Pirates took a 28-0 lead after just the first quarter, extending it to 35 at the half. Now 3-0, Bluffton hosts the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats on Friday at 7. LCC 6CAREY 0CAREY– Lima Central Catholic defeated Carey 6-0 on Friday.The Thunderbirds pulled out a hard-fought victory on the road, with less than 100 total yards between the two teams at the half. Carey, now with its worst record to start the season in 10 years at 0-3, will travel to Upper Sandusky on Friday to take on the rival Rams at 7. WOODMORE 44FOSTORIA 0ELMORE– Woodmore shut out Fostoria 44-0 on Friday night at home.Woodmore took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter, and extended it to a 28-0 advantage at the halftime whistle. The Redmen are now 0-3, and have scored just 13 points through three games, while giving up 134 points. Fostoria travels to Oak Harbor on Friday at 7 p.m.
