Blue Devils top Falcons to win fifth straight

CAREY 3RIVERDALE 0MOUNT BLANCHARD – Carey's volleyball team continued to roll on Saturday, following Thursday's win over state-ranked Mohawk with a 25-22, 25-20, 26-24 victory over Riverdale in a nonleague matchup between the backyard rivals.The win was the fifth straight for Carey (6-2), which handed Mohawk (7-1) its first loss on Thursday and Riverdale (5-2) its second setback of the season. Riverdale, which started the season 5-0, has dropped two in a row heading into Monday's BVC contest at Leipsic (7-0) and Wednesday's league match at Van Buren (6-2).Carey's Abbi Seager was 27-for-27 spiking with 14 kills, seven blocks and 11 digs. Emily Brodman (21-21 spiking, 7 digs, 2 blocks) and Sophia Kline (15-15 spiking, 3 blocks) had seven kills each.Rylie Stoops (22-25 spiking, 4 kills) led Carey with 18 digs and McKinnley Kessler had a team-leading 25 assists. Regan Boutwell delivered 18 digs for the Falcons, while Shayla Newfer lined six kills. Paige Courtad handed out 26 assists for Riverdale and Dylann Thacker smashed 10 kills. C-R TRI-MEETRAWSON – Ada rallied to beat Delphos Jefferson in three sets and swept Cory-Rawson in two in a volleyball tri-match hosted by Cory-Rawson.Brook Andreasen had 11 kills, Dailah Preston (5 blocks) had 10 and Alivia Gibson had seven in the two matches, a 22-25, 25-14, 25-12 win over Delphos Jefferson and a 25-13, 25-9 win over Cory-Rawson.Alyssa Madison had 20 total digs, Tea Griffith (8 kills) had 19 digs and 17 assists and Jaylin St. Laurent served up 10 aces and had 29 assists in helping Ada improve to 8-1 on the season. GREEN 0OTTAWA – Ottawa-Glandorf upped its record to 6-3 and posted its third straight sweep with a 25-17, 25-14, 25-12 win over Bowling Green.Sienna Fry pounded 12 kills for O-G, including No. 1,000 for her career. Marly Buddelmeyer had seven kills, and Addy Bellman had 29 assists and eight digs.Addie Brokaw led BG (2-8) with five kills. PIONEER INVITEKALIDA – Liberty-Benton went 2-1 in placing second in the Kalida Pioneer Days Invitational volleyball tournament.Liberty-Benton swept Wayne Trace 25-12, 25-18 in its opening match, then rallied from a first-set loss to beat North Central 26-28, 25-17, 25-17 in the semifinals.In the championship match, the Eagles dropped a 25-17, 25-23 decision to Kalida. Ally Hocanson dished out 61 sets for the Eagles, with Corra Dehart smashing 21 kills and six blocks. L-B's Elie Brzezinski also had 21 kills while serving eight aces and registering 17 digs. Emelia Kin slammed 17 kills and five blocks for the Eagles, while Sadie Barnes added 16 kills, four aces and 16 digs. Maddie Amstutz registered 50 digs for the Eagles. B ARLINGTON 3SPENCERVILLE 2SPENCERVILLE – Ellie Marquart put on a show as Arlington won an overtime fourth set in rallying for a 25-10, 15-25, 24-26, 27-25, 15-11 win over Spencerville on Saturday.Arlington climbed to 5-4 after the win. Spencerville is 3-3. Marquart dished out 44 assists, came up with 18 digs, served four aces and recorded four kills for the Red Devils. Callie Hartman had a career high 19 kills for Arlington, while Mea Alexander added 33 digs, Mireya Velazquez 12 kills and Maddie Hartman six kills.
