Northview holds off Findlay

NORTHVIEW 4FINDLAY 1FINDLAY – Sylvania Northview went overtime in one match and posted straight-set wins in four in posting a 4-1 win over Findlay in Tuesday's Northern Lakes League tennis match at the FHS Courts.Findlay's lone win came at No. 2 singles where Kendall Beall took the first set 7-5. Beall was awarded the win when Northview's Tanya Mittal could not continue the match.Findlay's No. 1 doubles team of Audrey Schroeder and Willow Wetzel were also involved in an overtime match, but dropped that decision to Northview's Marissa Morgan and Macy Dogan, 6-1, 7-5.Northview took two of the three singles matches, with Reese Lambert (No. 1) defeating Abi Russell 6-2, 6-0, and Kendall Newsome (No. 3) scoring a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Rosalynn Mayle.At No. 2 doubles, Northview's Abby Caryer and Brielle Bentley topped Maggie Bramel and Reese Hagedorn 6-4, 6-2.Findlay is back in league play on Thursday with an NLL match at Napoleon. BOYS SOCCERNORTHVIEW 3FINDLAY 0FINDLAY – Sylvania Northview scored twice in a three-minute burst, led 3-0 at the half and chalked up a 3-0 win over Findlay in a Northern Lakes League boys soccer match at Elmer Graham Stadium on Tuesday.Northview's Zade Al Naqib broke a scoreless tie at the 25:50 mark of the first half. Xavier Hale scored the first of his two goals just 2:46 later, then connected again at the 13:29 mark for Northview's 3-0 halftime lead.Matt Bennett made four saves in goal for Northview, 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in NLL Buckeye Division matches.David Roberts made 11 saves and Jacob Kinn had one for Findlay, which dipped to 1-4-1 with the loss, 1-3-0 in NLL games.Tyler Worthington (6 steals, 9 intercepts) and Zion Ortiz (7 steals, 8 intercepts) led Findlay defensively, along with Britton Elliott (8 steals, 6 intercepts), Phoenix Highwood (7 steals, 6 intercepts), Charlie Ernst (5 steals, 6 intercepts), Evan McDaniel (6 steals, 3 intercepts) and Brayden Cooper (4 steals, 5 intercepts).Findlay faces another challenge on Saturday when the Trojans welcome Centerville to Elmer Graham Stadium. A 14-time state qualifier, Centerville had made eight appearances in the state championship game. VOLLEYBALL PERRYSBURG 3FINDLAY 0FINDLAY – Perrysburg's volleyball team rode into Findlay on Tuesday with a sparkling record and a lofty state ranking and validated both of those attributes with a straight set 25-18, 25-18, 25-14 Northern Lakes League win over the Trojans at the FHS Gymnasium.Ranked No. 4 in Division I in the first coaches association poll of the season, Perrysburg improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in NLL Buckeye Division play. Owen Vick carded a 39 for the Trojans, with Jamie Tate's 44 and a 45 by Jacob Meier completing the scoring.Findlay will compete in the Jim Denos Invitational in Norwalk on Saturday, then prepare for the NLL tournament to be held Sept. 17-18.
