State report cards released

FINDLAY — The Ohio Department of Education released its annual School Report Cards for the 2024-25 academic year on Monday, offering a detailed evaluation on how districts across the state are performing each year. The reports attempt to showcase the strengths of public school districts and local schools, while also highlighting areas for improvement. According to the ODE, each school and district receives an overall point rating and star rating, ranging from 1 to 5 stars, with six components contributing to the overall score: Achievement: How students perform on state tests throughout the year in a variety of subjects from grade 3 through high school. Gap Closing: How well students are meeting performance expectations for students in English language arts, math and graduation. Also measures how schools support English learners to increase language proficiency, reducing chronic absenteeism, and identifying gifted students and providing gifted services. Early Literacy: Reading improvement and proficiency for students in kindergarten through grade 3. Progress: Impact of districts, schools and teachers on academic growth, or progress rates year-to-year on groups of students. Graduation: The four-year and five-year adjusted cohort graduation rate in a school district Post-Graduation Readiness: The readiness of a graduating class from a district or building to go on to post-secondary education, enter the workforce or join the armed forces. The ODE uses a weighted method to determine the overall rating by using the following percentages: Achievement 25%, Progress 25%, Gap Closing 12.5%, Early Literacy 12.5%, Graduation Rate 12.5% and Post-graduation Readiness 12.5%.
