FHS golfers third in NLL tournament

NLL CHAMPIONSHIP OREGON – Findlay, Perrysburg and Sylvania Northview shot some decent golf scores on Wednesday. But Anthony Wayne sizzled on a hot September afternoon, posting a 293 team total to capture the 2025 Northern Lakes League's Buckeye Division championship. Michael Distefano fired an 8-under 64 and three other Anthony Wayne golfers shot 77 or better at the Eagles Landing Golf Course in Oregon. Sylvania Northview carded a 305 but was second, Findlay posted one of its best rounds, a 311, and was third, and Perrysburg (316) was fourth. Toledo Whitmer (391) rounded out the NLL Buckeye Division standings. Owen Vick led Findlay with a 3-over 75, Kellen Sherer carded a 77 and Jamie Tate a 78. Jacob Meier's 81 completed Findlay's 311 total. Leo Castellaneta (85) and Reece Stillings (86) rounded out the lineup for the Trojans, who will take part in the Bishop Watterson Invitational on Saturday, the Toledo Country Club Invitational on Sept. 22 and the OHSAA Division I sectional tournament at Sycamore Springs Golf Course in Arlington on Sept. 24. Oregon Clay won the NLL's Cardinal Division golf title. N10 BOYS SHELBY – Led by a 66 from meet medalist Clay Rogers, Wynford posted a 315 team score and won the 2025 Northern 10 Conference boys golf title Wednesday at Woody Ridge Golf Club in Shelby. Colonel Crawford (319) was a close second and Carey (323) edged Upper Sandusky (325) for third. Chase Mullholand fired a 77 for Carey and Andrew Resendes carded a 79. GIRLS SOCCER FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;3 WHITMER &emsp;&emsp;0 TOLEDO – Olivia Gayhart scored two goals and Findlay High's defense pitched a shutout in the Trojans 3-0 win over Whitmer on Wednesday in a Northern Lakes League girls soccer match in Toledo. Elynn Hawkins also scored for Findlay. Yasmin Teixeira assisted on all three goals and Addie Sprang made three saves in goal. Unbeaten in its last four matches (2-0-2) Findlay improved to 5-2-2 overall heading into Saturday's match at Olentangy Liberty. VAN BUREN 2 RIVERDALE 0 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Sophia Webster and Kami Bowman swapped goals and assists on Wednesday when Van Buren edged Riverdale 2-0 in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association contest. Webster scored off a Bowman free kick to put Van Buren on the board. Bowman later scored on a pass from Webster to put the Black Knights, 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the league, up 2-0. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;5 ADA &emsp;&emsp;1 FINDLAY – Kylie Modd and Piper Ogden scored two goals each in pacing Liberty-Benton to a 5-1 soccer win over Ada. Ally Ferris also scored and Modd had an assist for L-B (6-4-2), along with Lucy Baker, Liz Niese, Reese Alexander and Sophie McDaniel. Ada fell to 9-2-1 with the setback. TENNIS WAPAKONETA 4 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;1 FINDLAY – Kendall Beall doubled up Wapakoneta's Kate Eley 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles on Wednesday, but it was Findlay's lone win in a 4-1 girls tennis loss to the Redskins. In the other singles matches, Liberty Jolly (No. 1) defeated Abi Russell 6-1, 6-1 and Brooklyn Mowery (No. 3) topped Rosalynn Mayle 6-3, 6-1. Wapakoneta posted nearly identical scores in sweeping the doubles matches, with Mylie Moser and Anja Walters (No.1) beating Audrey Schroder and Willow Wetzel 6-1, 6-4, and Nevaeh Dancer and Ava Eley (No. 2) doubling up Reese Hagedorn and Sanjana Indupuru, 6-1, 6-1. Findlay wraps up its regular season today at Lima Shawnee, then prepares for the Northern Lakes League tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at Sylvania Northview.
