It's a great time to curl up with a good book or library event

Some people crave fall the way others crave summer sunshine. It's more than just the cooler temperatures or the crunch of leaves underfoot— it's a longing for comfort, slower moments, and something that feels a little more grounded. At Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, we feel it too. As the days shorten and the scent of cinnamon sneaks into coffee cups, our shelves and programs shift to match the season. This is the time for curling up with a good book, diving into a creative project, or gathering with neighbors for something meaningful — and your local library is ready to be part of your perfect fall. After months of outdoor activities, fall offers the perfect opportunity to rediscover the joy of being indoors with a good book. As you grab your hot drink and fuzzy blanket, what type of book do you gravitate to? If you crave a cozy fall romance reminiscent of a Hallmark movie or Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls, consider the Dream Harbor series by Laurie Gilmore. The first in the series, The Pumpkin Spice Café, introduces readers to small-town Dream Harbor in the fall, and the latest book (the fifth in the series), The Gingerbread Bakery, celebrates a wedding in winter. Fall is also a time for nostalgia, so if you crave the familiarity of a favorite author, check out The Secret of Secrets, the latest Robert Langdon thriller by Dan Brown, or Nicholas Sparks' newest novel Remain featuring M. Night Shyamalan. Maybe the impending spooky season has you grabbing for a mystery, thriller, or horror story. Some new releases to check out would be The Intruder by Freida McFadden (New York Times bestselling author of The Housemaid) or Play Nice, the latest horror novel from Bram Stoker Award nominee Rachel Harrison. If a creature feature is more your style, Mate, Ali Hazelwood's companion book to her bestselling werewolf novel Bride releases in October. Lastly, don't sleep on our non-fiction section! We offer travel guides, cookbooks, memoirs, how-to titles, and so much more — perfect for sparking inspiration as the seasons shift. If autumn has you seeking a sense of community, we have welcoming programs for all ages this October. Our adult craft program Glitter & Glue offers two opportunities to make a ghost pillowcase, perfect for fall decorating! Next, become part of the action in our adult interactive movie night, Film Fusion, on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. We'll be watching the ultimate Halloween movie about three sister witches! Teens in grades six through twelve are invited to help us decorate the Teen Area by painting a pumpkin inspired by your favorite book character on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. We'll display all of the pumpkins and have the public vote on a winning design! The winner will receive a $25 Walmart gift card. Please register at our online calendar. On Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m., we welcome back librarian and history expert McKenna Essman for a presentation on the history of both national and local haunted locations. Our Friends of the Library book sale has become an annual autumn tradition, and we are excited to offer it this month on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A special Friends-only preview sale will take place Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Lastly, kids five and under are invited to wear costumes, dance, and play spooky games at our Halloween Dance Party on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10 a.m.!
