Hancock jobless rate fell

FINDLAY — Hancock County's unemployment rate fell to 4.9% in August from 5.3% in July, the Ohio Job and Family Services Department reported Tuesday. Jobless rates declined in 86 of Ohio's 88 counties last month. Putnam County's 3.7% unemployment rate was sixth lowest in Ohio. Area unemployment rates in August, with July rates in parentheses, then August 2024, were: • Allen County, 5.4% (5.7%); 4.4%. • Hancock County, 4.9% (5.3%); 4.1%. • Hardin County, 5.8% (6.1%); 4.8%. • Henry County, 4.9% (5.5%); 4.3%. • Putnam County, 3.7% (4.3%); 3.5%. • Seneca County, 5.2% (5.8%); 4.3%. • Wood County, 4.9% (5.4%); 4.5%. • Wyandot County, 4.0% (4.7%); 3.5%. The lowest jobless rate in the state last month was in Medina County, south of Cuyahoga and Lorain counties, 3.2%. The highest unemployment rate in the state, 7.4%, was in Meigs County, on the West Virginia border. The statewide jobless rate, which is seasonally adjusted, was 5% in August, the same as in July. In August 2024, it was 4.4% The nationwide unemployment rate, which is seasonally adjusted, rose to 4.3% in August from 4.2% in July. In August 2024 it was 4.2%.
