L-B, Arlington stage five-set battle in BVC volleyball

L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 ARLINGTON 2 ARLINGTON – Liberty-Benton and Arlington went toe-to-toe for five long sets on Wednesday before L-B was able to pull out a 25-16, 20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9 win over the Red Devils in a marathon Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball battle. Corra Dehart (4 aces) hammered 21 kills, Emelia Kin had 13 and both had five blocks. Sadie Barnes (12 digs, 4 aces) had 12 kills and Elise Brzezinski (15 digs) had 11 as Liberty-Benton (12-2, 6-0 BVC) avoided the upset and remained unbeaten in BVC matches. Ally Hocanson had 50 assists and 19 digs for L-B, with Maddy Amstutz's 24 digs leading the way. Ellie Marquart had 36 assists and 14 digs for Arlington. Callie Hartman led the Red Devils (8-9, 3-3 BVC) with 15 kills, with Mea Alexander recording 20 digs and Mireya Velaquez 14. LEIPSIC &emsp;&emsp;3 ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;0 BLOOMDALE – Leipsic pushed its Blanchard Valley Conference record to a perfect 7-0 and climbed to 15-1 overall with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 win over Elmwood. Danaysia Danzy had 16 kills, Kya Brandt had nine and Alyssa Campbell (3 aces) and Sidney Apple added five each as Leipsic got back on the winning track after Tuesday's five-set loss to state-ranked Ottawa-Glandorf. Jaelynn Siefer came up with 11 digs and Danzy, Brandt (4 aces) and Karly Garcia had seven each. Karmyn Brough led the Vikings with 38 assists. JUNIOR VARSITY, Leipsic, 2-1 VAN BUIREN 3 ADA &emsp;&emsp;1 VAN BUREN – Van Buren got off to a fast start, sweeping the first two set in taking a 25-19, 25-13, 22-25, 25-14 BVC win over Ada. Brooklyn Wilkin had 24 kills, nine digs and five ace serves and Selma Brant had 16 kills, 19 digs and six aces. Lydia Ponn led the Black Knights (12-3, 4-2 BVC) with 40 assists and Lily Grine had 14 digs. Brook Andreasen had 13 kills, two blocks and four aces for Ada (10-5, 2-5 BVC). Téa Griffith (12 assists) had seven kills, Dailah Preston (3 blocks) had five and Anna Conley added four. Jaylin St. Laurent had a team-high 15 assists, with Alyssa Madison (17) and Alivia Gibson (10) leading the Bulldogs in digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Van Buren, 25-15, 25-18. P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;0 PANDORA – Nevaeha Alvarado and Corrin Luginbill pounded 15 kills each and Kelsie Carlson had seven in powering Pandora-Gilboa to a 25-11, 25-16, 25-21 BVC volleyball win over Arcadia. Cora Hovest led P-G (11-5, 6-1 BVC) with 29 assists, with Ava Huffman (8 assists) collecting 13 digs, Annabelle Benton seven and Laira Parkins five. Ryleigh Bostic (12 digs, 3 aces) led Arcadia with six kills and Elyse Boes (7 digs), Ellie Moes (3 blocks) and Kate Seem (3 blocks) all had five. Ivy Smith led the Redskins (5-9, 2-5 BVC) with 13 assists and Lexi Theis had 13 digs. JUNIOR VARSITY: Arcadia 26-24, 25-16. RIVERDALE 3 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;0 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Riverdale notched its second straight win and evened its overall record at 7-7 with a 25-22, 25-12, 25-14 BVC win over Vanlue. Leah Miller was 18-of-21 spiking with 10 kills and Shayla Newfer was 16-of-16 serving with five aces, seven kills and two blocks. Claire Inbody (2 blocks) had four kills and Carly Karcher, (3 blocks), Dylann Thacker and Carly Karcher (3 blocks) had three kills each. Paige Courtad was 34-for-34 setting with 10 assists, three kills and four blocks for the Falcons (7-7, 1-5 BVC). Aubree Higgins led Vanlue with five kills and five blocks, with Madison Brooks adding four kills and Riley Holbrook three. Adrienne Phillips had 13 assists for the Wildcats (1-11, 0-6 BVC) and Candace Saltzman had five digs.
