FHS golfers claim D-I sectional title

DIVISION I SECTIONAL ARLINGTON – Findlay's depth and balance won the day when the Trojans claimed the team title at the Division I sectional golf tournament held at Arlington's Sycamore Springs Golf Course. No Findlay golfer finished among the top three. But all five FHS players shot 84 or better, and the Trojans' 318 team score was six strokes better than Lima Shawnee (324). Mansfield Madison (328), Lexington (331) and Ashland (336) completed the top five that advance to the Division I district to be held Oct. 3 at the Shawnee Country Club in Lima. While the top five teams and top five individual scores from non-qualifying teams advance to district competition, only one team and one individual will advance from district to state. Owen Vick, fresh off a first-team all-league effort in the Northern Lakes League tournament and a medalist finish in Monday's Anthony Wayne Invitational, led Findlay with a 75 at Wednesday's sectional and Jacob Meier had a 77. Vick was fourth and Meier fifth in the medalist standings. Jamie Tate and Reece Stillings carded 83s and tied for 12th to complete Findlay's 318 total. Leo Castellaneta was 15th with an 84. TENNIS NLL TENNIS PERRYSBURG – After going 10-0 in regular season matches, Anthony Wayne won individual titles in all five finals matches in powering its way to the 2025 Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division girls tennis championship. Tournament matches were played Tuesday and Wednesday at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. Perrysburg finished second in the final standings, followed by Sylvania Northview, Findlay and Toledo Whitmer. Findlay's Kendall Beall placed third at No. 2 singles, and Rosalynn Mayle at No. 3 singles and the Trojans No. 2 doubles team of Reese Hagedorn and Maggie Bramel were fourth. Beall dropped her opening match, 6-0, 6-0 to Perrysburg's Madison Watkins, then roared back with consolation wins over Toledo Whitmer's Riley McGrath (6-2, 6-1) and Sylvania Northview's Tanya Mittall (6-3, 6-1). Mayle beat Whitmer's Isabella Ostrowski 6-0, 6-1, then lost back-to-back matches to top-seeded Quinn Bublick of Anthony Wayne (6-3, 6-2) and Northview's Kendall Newsome (6-3, 6-2). At No. 2 doubles, Hagedorn and Bramel opened with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Whitmer's Marlee Chappell and Madyson Tillett, then lost to Perrysburg's Lillith Dunn and Savanna Boris (6-0, 6-1) and, in the consolation final, to Northview's Brielle. Bentley and Abby Caryer (6-0, 6-3). In other FHS matches, Abi Russell fell 6-3, 6-2 to Whitmer's Kendall Hammons and 6-3, 6-0 to Northview's Reese Lambert at No. 1singles. Findlay's No. 1 double team of Audrey Schroeder and Willow Wetzel lost 6-2, 7-5 to Whitmer's Alexis Stoldt and Marissa Ibarra in opening match and 6-2, 6-2 to Perrysburg's Ava Geffe and Ellie Pesci in the consolation round. GIRLS SOCCER PERRYSBURG 8 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 FINDLAY – Unbeaten Perrysburg rolled to an 8-0 win over Findlay on Wednesday in a Northern Lakes League girls soccer contest at Elmer Graham Stadium. Perrysburg improved to 9-0-1 with the win. It will out of the frying pan and into the fire for Findlay (4-4-2). On Monday the Trojans will also host another unbeaten NLL opponent in Anthony Wayne, which is 8-0-2. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 VAN BUREN 0 VAN BUREN – Kylie Modd scored two goals and Liberty-Benton picked a 3-0 win over Van Buren on Wednesday in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association matchup. Reagan Niese had L-B's third goal and Ally Ferris, Addi Tiell and Sophie McDaniel were credited with assists as L-B improved to 7-5-2 overall. Van Buren dipped to 5-6-0.
