Teens can journey to Middle-earth this week at the library

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is offering the following programs the week of Sept. 28 – Oct. 4: Storytime fun starts at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in the Lindamood Room. Sing, rhyme, and read, then craft and enjoy activities together with a new theme each week. Your child will have so much fun they might not even realize they are learning important skills for future reading! This program's content is geared to preschool-aged children with a caregiver. Theme for the week is colorful creations. At 6 p.m. on Tuesday in the Lindamood Room, adults and teens are invited to bring their favorite mug and journey to Middle-earth. Join the library for a magical adventure as we create our very own Teacup Hobbit Gardens, inspired by the peaceful hills of the Shire. Mini Meet-Up is scheduled for Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. in the Early Learning Center in the Children's Department. Little ones can explore new games, toys and activities that are educational and fun while socializing and making new friends. Starter Storytime will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and bells. This program is suggested for children up to 36 months of age with a caregiver. Older siblings are welcome, too. Storytime at Arlington is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at our Arlington Branch. If you and your little ones are curious about what firefighters do and want to learn more about fire safety, join us for Fire Safety Storytime with the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department. Learn how to stay safe in a fire emergency with a story, rhymes, songs, a craft, and fun activities. There will also be time for Q&A. This program's content is geared to preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Creative writers - if you're tired of writing alone, come write with other adults! Bring your own work-in-progress or start fresh with one of our prompts. We meet at Coffee Amici in downtown Findlay on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The 50 North Book Discussion will take a look at Tara Westover's Educated this month on Thursday, October 2 at 10 a.m. at 50 North, 339 E. Melrose Avenue. Join the library for art, science, and engineering projects in our Makerspace. This month, we will be learning how to do yarn crafts. Children 8 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Makerspace for Homeschoolers is at 2 p.m., and Makerspace is at 6 p.m., with both taking place in the Lindamood Room. Another spectacular Virtual Author Talk is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. Join us in a virtual conversation with Smithsonian Educators Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key. This program is presented in partnership with the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Join the library for the Family History Lock-In on Friday, October 3 beginning at 5:00 p.m. We ask that you park on Broadway or in the library parking lot at the northeast corner of Front and Cory Streets. Please do not park in the garage as we will be closing the gates. When the library closes, we will be "locked in" to work on genealogy for three hours! We invite you to use library books, computers, and other resources to research your family tree. Staff and volunteers will be available to assist researchers. Bring a brown-bag supper along for refreshment, if you wish.
