L-B, P-G chalk up BVC volleyball wins

L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 VAN BUREN 2 VAN BUREN – Liberty-Benton took a 2-0 lead but needed a strong fifth set to outlast Van Buren 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 21-25, 15-7 in a BVC volleyball match on Wednesday. Emelia Kin (3 blocks) had 18 kills, Corra Dehart (8 blocks) had 17, Elise Brzezinski (14 digs) had 15 and Sadie Barnes (12 digs) had eight as Liberty-Benton improved to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the BVC. Maddy Amstutz was 22-for-22 serving with two aces and 22 digs. Ally Hocanson (13 digs) dished out 57 assists for the Eagles. Brooklyn Wilkin (3 blocks, 7 digs) hammered 29 kills and Selma Brant (17 digs, 3 aces) had 18, including the milestone 1,000th kill of her career at Van Buren. Brittyn Wilkin (7 digs) and Morgan Walters added three kills each. Lydia Ponn (8 digs) led the Black Knights (14-4, 5-3 BVC) with 46 assists and Lily Grine had 10 digs. P-GILBOA &emsp;&emsp;3 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;1 VANLUE – Pandora-Gilboa rallied from a first set loss to get past Vanlue 20-25, 25-8, 25-15, 25-14 and remain tied with Liberty-Benton for second place in the Blanchard Valley Conference volleyball standings. Nevaeha Alvarado (2 aces) had 14 kills and six digs, Kelsie Carlson (3 aces) had 11 kills and 12 digs and Claire Osting had nine kills for P-G (13-5, 7-1 BVC). Laira Parkins led the Rockets with 42 assists. Ava Huffman (3 aces) had 26 digs, Parkins had 10 and Annabelle Benton (3 aces) had six. Madison Brooks (6 blocks) and Riley Holbrokk led Vanlue with five kills each and Aubree Higgins and Candace Saltzman (6 digs) both had four. Adrienne Phillips led the Wildcats (2-15, 0-7 BVC) with 15 assists. JUNIOR VARSITY: Pandora-Gilboa, 25-8, 25-12. ADA &emsp;&emsp;3 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;1 ARCADIA – Ada split two two-point sets in the middle of the match but was able to pull out a 25-9, 26-24, 23-25, 25-14 BVC volleyball win over Arcadia. Brook Andreasen (4 blocks) and Dailah Preston (7 blocks) had 11 kills each and Tea Griffith (17 assists, 8 digs, 3 blocks) and Anna Conley (3 blocks) added seven kills each. Alyssa Madison led Ada (14-6, 4-5 BVC) with 29 digs and Jaylin St. Laurent had 19 digs, 17 assists and eight aces. Ryleigh Bostic led Arcadia with 10 kills and 15 digs. Elyse Boes and Ellie Moes had seven kills each, with Ivy Smith (4 aces) recording 31 assists for the Redskins (8-12, 2-7 BVC). JUNIOR VARSITY: Arcadia 25-19, 23-25, 25-22. MCCOMB &emsp;&emsp;3 ARLINGTON 0 MCCOMB – McComb went overtime in the first set and used identical scores in the second and third in Wednesday's 27-25, 25-18, 25-18 BVC win over Arlington. Addisen Krassow led McComb with 15 kills and Morgan Kern had 12 kills, 17 digs and four aces. Claire Bryan had 12 assists and 11 digs, with Shelby Hassan (12 assists) and Lyv Shaheen (9 assists) adding nine digs each. Journey Scheff had four kills and three blocks for the Panthers (8-7, 3-5 BVC). Ellie Marquart had 19 assists and four aces for Arlington (9-10, 4-4 BVC). Callie Hartman led the Red Devils with 13 kills and Mea Alexander had 17 digs. ELMWOOD &emsp;&emsp;3 RIVERDALE 1 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Elmwood jumped to a 2-0 lad, then closed out Riverdale in a 25-11, 25-20, 14-25, 25-21 BVC win over the Falcons. Shayla Newfer was 19-for-19 serving with four aces for Riverdale (7-9, 1-7 BVC). Dylann Thacker (5-7 serving had two aces for the Falcons. GIRLS SOCCER NORTHVIEW 4 FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;3 FINDLAY – Sylvania Northview edged Findlay 4-3 in a Northern Lakes League girls soccer match at Elmer Graham Stadium on Wednesday. Northview improved its record to 6-4-2 with the win. Findlay slipped to 4-6-2 heading into Monday's match at Lexington. L-BENTON &emsp;&emsp;3 RIVERDALE 0 FINDLAY – Ally Ferris scored two goals and assisted on another in Liberty-Benton's 3-0 North Central Ohio Soccer Association win over Riverdale. Ferris scored her first goal with three minutes left in the first half, and her second with 16:29 left in the match. Her assist on Kylie Modd's goal made it 2-0 midway through the second half. Liberty-Benton (8-6-2) had an 18-4 advantage in total shots. Riverdale keeper Ryleigh Howard made five saves for the Falcons (3-7-3). VAN BUREN 4 U. SANDUSKY 0 VAN BUREN – Kami Bowman scored two goals, Sophia Webster and Maddy Hardie had a goal and an assist each and Van Buren chalked up its third straight win with a 4-0 NCOSA soccer victory over Upper Sandusky. Brookanne Busch posted the shutout in goal, making three saves for the Black Knights (8-6-0). Carly Boes made five saves for Upper (5-8-1). (14-sub head) Moyer scores ace FINDLAY – Cheryl Moyer scored a hole-in-one on hole No. 14, one of 13 holes still in operation at Red Hawk Run, during a weekly event at the facility.
