Rain wipes out second day of state tournaments

STATE GOLFDAYTON – Mother Nature – and parched grounds – were the only winners on Tuesday when rain cancelled the second rounds of play in the Division II boys and Division II girls state golf tournaments.With no alternate plan to make up Tuesday's round, both state tournaments were reduced to one-day events and Monday's first-round results determined state placings.In the Division II girls event at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Van Buren ended up sixth with a 377 team total. Addyson Adams, a senior playing in the state tournament for the fourth straight year, earned first-team all-state honors with Monday's score of 75.Liberty-Benton finished 11th in the Division II boys tournament at the NCR Country Club South Course in Dayton. The Eagles posted a score of 346 on Monday.Van Buren's boys golf team will compete in the Division III state tournament Monday and Tuesday at the NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury. BOYS SOCCER L-BENTON 4O-GLANDORF 0FINDLAY – Lincoln Holler scored two goals, Aiden Hatch had a goal and two assists and Liberty-Benton's boys soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to 14 straight matches on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Ottawa-Glandorf .Lucas Theis also scored a goal and Jario Colina and Cooper Cox had assists for L-B. Kooper Leatherman made five saves in goal for the Eagles, who are 12-0-2 in their last 14 matches and 14-1-2 overall. GIRLS SOCCER O-GLANDORF 5SHAWNEE 0LIMA – Karsyn Erford scored two goals, Delaney Duling had a goal and three assists and Ottawa-Glandorf wrapped up a fourth straight Western Buckeye League girls soccer title with Tuesday's 5-0 win over Lima Shawnee.Liv Grothause and Emma Heringhaus also scored for O-G. Libbie Niese made two saves in goal in recording the shutout for the Titans, 11-5-0 overall and 7-1-0 in WBL matches. BLUFFTON 1L. CENTER 0LIBERTY CENTER – Blair Utendorf's goal six minutes into the match and lots of defense carried Bluffton to a 1-0 girls soccer win over Liberty Center on Tuesday.Aubrey Burkholder got the assist on Utendorf's goal and Kynzie Ewing made four saves in goal for the Pirates (8-7-0).
