Vanlue rallies for first victory in more than two years

VANLUE 32 JEFFERSON TWP. 28 VANLUE – With a half of football left to play Friday, Vanlue found itself down to Dayton Jefferson Township, 14-8. But behind Micah Williams, Vanlue stormed back, and claimed a 32-28 win over the Broncos. Williams carried the ball 32 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcats snapped a 24-game losing streak that dated back more than two years. Quarterback Brady Hamilton had just three carries, but ran for two touchdowns and 86 yards. He also completed 4 of 5 passes for 31 yards. The Wildcats rushed for 279 yards as a team in improving to 1-7. Leon Rock led Vanlue with 7 ½ tackles. "It was a team effort," said Wildcats coach John Kloepfer. "We pulled together and won as a team." It was Vanlue's first victory since a 56-28 win over Millersport Aug, 25, 2023. The Wildcats will host 7-1 Manchester next week. ARLINGTON 21 McCOMB 14 McCOMB – Arlington quarterback Trenton Heacock's found tight end Karsen Kochensparger on a six-yard touchdown pass with 2:45 left in regulation, completing a big fourth-quarter comeback, tying McComb at 14 and sending the game to overtime. In OT, the Red Devils' Ayden Cavinee scored on a three-yard run to give Arlington a 21-14 win. Cavinee carried the ball just 11 times for 25 yards, and had three receptions for 48 yards. But he scored two of the Red Devils' three touchdowns. He scored on a 7-yard run with 6:40 left in regulation to put Arlington on the scoreboard for the first time. Heacock finished running the ball 17 times for 101 yards, which included a 68-yard dash. He completed 10 of 16 passes for 168 yards. McComb got a 2-yard touchdown run from Gracin Romero with 2:03 left in the first quarter, and with 1:52 remaining in the half, Grady Schroeder found the end zone from six yards out. That staked the Panthers to a 14-0 advantage they'd hold well into the final quarter. Schroeder finished with 105 yards rushing on 24 attempts, and completed 6 of 9 passes for 64 yards. Brayden Heller was McComb's top rusher, gaining 127 yards on 22 carries. Arlington has now won back to back BVC games, and improved to 6-2, 4-2 ahead of next week's showdown at one-loss Leipsic. McComb, 3-5 and 2-4 in the conference, will travel to Riverdale. COL. GROVE 38 CON. CRESTVIEW 0 CONVOY – Trevon Baxter and Columbus Grove left Convoy Crestview behind in the first quarter Friday night. Way behind. Baxter caught three first quarter touchdown passes and returned a punt 53 yards to the end zone. Brody McCluer blocked a Crestview punt in the opening quarter, which was recovered for a Bulldogs touchdown. By the time the first quarter was over, Columbus Grove led the Knights, 32-0. It added a second quarter touchdown –a 10 yard pass from Gacin Baxter to Landon Best – and Columbus Grove shut out Crestview 38-0. It was Columbus Grove's fifth consecutive win after an 0-3 start, and the Bulldogs improved to 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. The win sets up a showdown next Friday night between Columbus Grove and unbeaten Lima Central Catholic in Lima. Best completed 12 of 15 passes for 142 yards and four TDs. Three of those went to Trevon Baxter, who ended with six catches for 76 yards. Defensively, the Bulldogs kept Crestview's star tailback, Braxton Leeth, in check. Leeth managed just 54 yards on 15 carries. P-GILBOA 38ARCADIA 0ARCADIA– Pandora-Gilboa notched its fifth win of the season in a 38-0 shutout of Blanchard Valley Conference opponent Arcadia on Friday.Quarterback Cory Gerten went 12-of-15 passing for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Gerten added two more scores on the ground. The Rockets' Ben Burkholder tallied 11 carries for 88 yards and a TD. Jace Fenbert recorded three catches for 67 yards and a score, while Chase Meyer had four catches for 44 yards and a touchdown. Lamarion Tucker led the Redskins with 88 yards on 20 carries. Nick Moes added 10 carries for 24 yards. The Rockets, now sitting at 5-3 and 4-2 in the BVC, travel to Ada on Friday for another BVC contest. Arcadia (2-6, 1-5 BVC) hosts the undefeated Liberty-Benton Eagles on Friday. N. BALTIMORE 49RIDGEMONT 21NORTH BALTIMORE– Luke Long threw for 182 yards and ran for 107 more against Ridgemont, and North Baltimore claimed the football program's first Northwest Central Conference title with a 49-21 win. The Tigers improved to 8-0 overall, 7-0 in the NWCC while clinching their first football conference title of any kind since 1995. Brody Walter ended with 111 yards on the ground for North Baltimore, while Zander South finished with 60 receiving yards. Cooper Clark had 60 yards through the air, and Gabe Patterson added 45 more. North Baltimore will travel to Crestline on Friday for a date with the Bulldogs. VAN BUREN 42ADA 3VAN BUREN– Brody Scoles couldn't be stopped, and Van Buren decimated Ada, 42-3, on Friday. The Black Knights recorded 365 rushing yards, headlined by Scoles, who finished with 228 yards on 13 carries, scoring four touchdowns. Brady Lance added 119 yards and two scores on the ground, while passing for 52 more yards and going 6-of-11. Alex Homan caught three passes for 26 yards. Ada's Kolton Dysert finished with 28 yards receiving and 25 yards rushing. Gavin Oldfield had four catches for 53 yards. Zack Zimmerman had two for 31 yards. The Black Knights (5-3, 4-2 BVC) travel to Elmwood on Friday, while Ada (5-3, 3-3 BVC) hosts Pandora-Gilboa. MOHAWK 31U. SANDUSKY 6UPPER SANDUSKY– Mohawk made it a relatively easy night at Upper Sandusky, defeating its N10 rival 31-6 on the road and spoiling the Rams' homecoming celebration.Keegan Dunn completed 10 of his 23 passes for 100 yards for the Rams. Ethan Lewis recorded 16 carries for 72 yards. Josh Heilman finished with five catches for 56 yards. Caine Rupe had two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown, while Ezekiel Baldwin added two catches for 17 yards. Oscar Salsburey ran for 133 yards on 11 carries. Deegan Miller notched 102 receiving yards on four receptions. Jordan Schmaker added 42 yards on six receptions. HENRY 21ARCHBOLD– Patrick Henry dropped just its second game of the season, as a third-quarter two-point conversion gave Archbold a 22-21 victory at home.Tristen Rosebrook passed for 185 yards, going 14 of 22 and tossing a TD. Kiefer Holloway ran for 87 yards, and added 63 more yards through the air. Reid Creager had 73 yards receiving, while Cal Schroeder added 58 yards on the ground. LORAMIE 9BLUFFTON– Bluffton improved to 7-1 with a strong 42-9 victory over Fort Loramie at home on Friday evening. The Pirates look ahead to a week nine matchup with Allen East on the road. RIDGEDALE 42C-RAWSON 0RAWSON– Ridgedale shut out Cory-Rawson 42-0 on the road on Friday, in a Northwest Central Conference affair. The Hornets, now 0-8 and 0-6 in conference meetings, will attempt to get their first W on the road Friday, taking on Ridgemont's Golden Gophers at 7 p.m. TOL. CHRISTIAN 48H. NORTHERN 6TOLEDO– Hardin Northern lost its fifth in a row, falling to Toledo Christian 48-6 on Friday night in a non-conference matchup. The 1-7 Polar Bears will look to right the ship on Friday, traveling to Upper Scioto Valley to take on the Rams at 7 p.m.
