Dickey trial begins

UPPER SANDUSKY — The criminal trial of Scott Dickey, 50, of Upper Sandusky began Monday in the Wyandot County Court of Common Pleas. Dickey is charged with rape, gross sexual imposition and two counts of abduction, stemming from two incidents with two separate alleged victims, occurring on different dates in 2024. One victim alleged that Dickey, in March 2024, assaulted and raped her while they were in a vehicle. The other victim alleged Dickey raped her in August 2024, while she provided him with massage therapy services. Dickey was indicted by a grand jury in October 2024. Dickey's trial began at 9 a.m. Monday with jury selection, with Judge Douglas Rowland presiding. The trial is expected to be completed Friday. The jury heard a preliminary report of the circumstances of the charges as well as testimony from the first witness, Det. Charles Seeley, who, at the time, worked in the major crimes unit of the Upper Sandusky Police Department. Seeley said he had taken the report in the first case, which occurred in August 2024. He said he had done approximately four interviews with the alleged victim over six weeks. In the first case, he said Dickey's claims and the victim's claims about the incident didn't match up initially, but according to Seeley, by the end of those four interviews the facts were the same. Wyandot County prosecuting attorney Eric Figlewicz and co-counsel argued Dickey did not receive consent for the alleged sexual acts, while defense attorney James Mayer argued he had. According to court records, 18 people have been subpoenaed to testify in the trial. Court proceedings will resume at the Wyandot County Courthouse 9 a.m. Tuesday.
