Go 'Home for the Holidays' in Wyandot County

UPPER SANDUSKY — The Wyandot Chamber of Commerce is partnering with local businesses and organizations to host its Home for the Holidays event, dedicated to food, shopping, crafts and spreading the holiday spirit.In downtown Upper Sandusky on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., those interested can start their day with breakfast, go shopping, make crafts and end their day with a festive parade."Home for the Holidays is one of Upper Sandusky's most beloved traditions — a full day dedicated to community, Christmas spirit and memories made together," states a Chamber release.The day begins at 7 a.m. with the annual Rotary Pancake Breakfast at John Stewart Methodist Church, which runs until 11 a.m."Start your morning off with warm pancakes topped with your choice of syrup, fruit or chocolate chips along with sausage links, milk and orange juice," the release reads.From there, families can start their shopping spree downtown, where local businesses and organizations offer holiday drink specials, discounts and festive crafts."The Upper Sandusky High School Christmas Craft Bazaar [from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.] offers handmade goods, unique finds and the perfect chance to finish off your holiday shopping list," the release reads.Many events throughout the day are catered to children, like the Friends of the Library's Santa's Secret Shop, open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Upper Sandusky Community Library."Children ages 12 and under are encouraged to fill out a shopper's sheet with information regarding who they are shopping for and their spending limit," it states. "When the shoppers arrive, an elf will help them shop for the perfect gifts for friends and family."For parents and adult shoppers, there will be drink specials to end the day off.Fort 88 will be giving out boozy hot chocolate from 5-6 p.m., and the Alibi Room will host a North Pole Nightcap from 6-8 p.m."Step indoors [at the Alibi Room] for a relaxed, festive space to unwind together with your DORA drinks," the release reads.And for those who may have finished their holiday shopping on Black Friday, there are also free holiday crafts offered throughout the day.Baker Financial and Belle Toi Salon and Spa Studio are hosting letters to Santa workshops, Kimmel Apparel is hosting a Christmas craft and coloring contest, Neumeister's Candy and Creekside Marketplace are hosting coloring contests, Saull Law is hosting a cookie decorating event and participants can make candy cane ornaments at Belle Amie Dress Boutique.After a full day of shopping, the Home for the Holidays Parade, followed by a tree lighting ceremony, horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Fantasy of Lights wrap up the day.At Harrison Smith Park from 6-11 p.m., families can "finish the night with the pinnacle of merry and bright by driving through the annual brilliance of the Fantasy of Lights, sure to spark the wonder of the season," the Chamber release states.
