Eagles hold off Arcadia, move to 2-0 in BVC

L-B 38 ARCADIA 29 FINDLAY – Arcadia kept things close most of the way Thursday at Liberty-Benton. The Redskins led 8-7 after one quarter, and trailed the Eagles by 3 points at halftime. Even going to the fourth quarter, Arcadia trailed L-B just 26-22. But the Eagles, behind three players scoring in double digits, held on. They got 12 points each from Megan Gerken and Corra Dehart and 10 points from Emelia Kin and beat Arcadia 38-29. Kin and Dehart had seven rebounds each for the Eagles, who improved to 3-1, 2-0 in the BVC. Emma Leib added four assists for L-B. For Arcadia (1-2, 0-2 BVC), Liberty Voges scored 10 points, while Elyse Boes added seven. COL. GROVE 49 ALLEN EAST 12 COLUMBUS GROVE – So far this season, the defending state champion Columbus Grove girls basketball team looks every bit as formidable as it did last season. Nicole Nesby scored 11 points while recording 11 rebounds and three blocks, and the Bulldogs outscored Allen East 18-0 in the second quarter on its way to a 49-12 win. The Bulldogs, who received 10 points and six boards from Lydia Sarka and a team-high 12 points from Kendal Palte, outscored the Mustangs 17-3 in the third quarter in improving to 4-0 and 1-0 in the NWC. Rylie Jordan added five points for the Mustangs. ADA 40 VANLUE 23 VANLUE –Anna Conley finished with 10 points, and Ada jumped out to a 14-7 lead after one quarter, then rolled to a 40-23 BVC win at Vanlue. Kenley Boling and Ashley Hevlin each scored six points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 2-2. Vanlue's Adrienne Phillips led the Wildcats with 11 points. Alison Brooks (5 steals) and Madison Brooks (9 rebounds) each had six points for Vanlue. Candace Saltzman led Vanlue (0-3) with 10 rebounds. CAREY 60 ARLINGTON 32 CAREY – Rylie Stoops scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds, and Carey jumped to an early lead and never looked back in a 60-32 non-conference win over Arlington. The Blue Devils led 13-4 at the first stop, and went up 31-12 at the break. Four Carey players scored in double figures. Bayah Harsanje put up 13 points for Carey, while Bella Phoenix added 12 points and five rebounds. Emily Brodman added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Jada Smith scored 12 points for Arlington, while Paige Clevenger registered six. P-G 60 ELMWOOD 52 PANDORA – Ava Huffman had a big night, with 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and Pandora-Gilboa held off Elmwood, 60-52. The game was tight throughout, as P-G was up 32-28 at halftime and just 44-38 after three quarters. But P-G held on, getting 17 points, and three steals from Savannah Knueven and 12 points, six rebounds and five assists from Kelsie Carlson. Selina Deal scored 22 points for the Royals, while Molly Barringer added 13 points. JV: Elmwood, 23-13. McCOMB 38 VAN BUREN 32 VAN BUREN – Morgan Kern converted a pair of field goal attempts and four free throws in the first quarter, helping McComb to a 12-5 lead at the first stop. From there, the Panthers were able to hold off the Black Knights for a 38-32 win. Kern scored a game-high 19 points in the win. She was the only Panther to score in double figures. Lana Lause notched six points for McComb. For Van Buren, Maddie Hudok was held scoreless in the first quarter, but still finished the game with 17 points, leading the Black Knights. Kami Bowman added five points for VB. JV: Van Buren, 37-25. O-G 55 SHAWNEE 46 OTTAWA—Karsyn Erford scored 23 points to lead Ottawa-Glandorf in a 55-46 win over Lima Shawnee in the WBL opener for the Titans. Madison McKee scored 19 for O-G, which improved to 2-0 on the season. C-RAWSON 34 RIDGEMONT 29 RIDGEWAY – Cory-Rawson was down a pair of starters Thursday in the Northwest Central Conference opener at Ridgemont. But the Hornets persevered, topping the Gophers 34-29. It was Cory-Rawson's first win under new coach Dan Smith. RIVERDALE 54 LEIPSIC 49 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Leipsic freshman Kya Brandt erupted for 33 points, converting 12 of 19 field goal attempts and going 6 of 6 at the foul line. But despite her efforts, it was Riverdale who came away with a 54-49 BVC win. Marissa Bonham finished with 21 points for the Falcons, while Claire Inbody added 10. Riverdale broke open a close game with a 17-6 spurt in the third quarter, and led 41-29 going to the fourth. But Leipsic made a run of its own in the fourth, outscoring the Falcons 20-13. But Riverdale held on. Nora Schroeder scored nine points for the Vikings.
