Trojans Brubaker, Gonder have 3rd-place finishes at Highland

WRESTLING KILTED KLASSICHIGHLAND – Findlay got third-place finishes from Kaliber Brubaker and Tyler Gonder on Saturday when the Trojans competed in the Kilted Klassic wrestling tournament at Highland High School.Gonder powered his way to the 215-pound semifinals with two pins and a 3-1 decision. He dropped his first match to Minerva's Timmy Kirkpatrick, but scored a 15-0 technical fall over another Minerva wrestler, Aiden Reagan, to claim third place.Brubaker went 4-1 in his matches in the 120-pound division. In the consolation final for third place, he was awarded the win on a medical forfeit over Hilliard Darby's Nick Coverstone.Kaidance Brubaker went 3-1 and was fourth at 113, Calen Kanney went 4-1 and was fifth at 175, and Madison Smith was 3-2 and sixth at 138.Fred Lopez was eighth at 132, and Alex Mendoza (126), Cashel Wet (157) and Teague Perkins (106) placed ninth. LANCER INVITATIONALLINCOLNVIEW – Van Buren's Brooks Hill won an individual championship and the Black Knights almost brought home the team title as well from Saturday's Lancer Invitational hosted by Lincolnview High School.In addition to Hills' individual title, Van Buren doubled up in both the 175- and 190-pound weight classes. The Black Knights compiled 297.5 points overall, just 2.5 points fewer than the 300 Lima Shawnee earned in winning the event.Hill pinned Antwerp's Gage Clevinger in 1:22 in 144-pound championship match.Jacob Harrington was tournament runner-up at 138, Landon Miller was second and Drew Phillips third at 190, and, in the 215 match for third and fourth place Myka Adams beat Van Buren teammate Luke Martin as the Knights doubled up on points in those divisions.MaxWagner at 120 and Tommy Basinger at 175 also placed third for Van Buren. Cooper Hanna (132) was fifth and Cullen Tussing (157) sixth.Ada had a meet champion with Silas Riblet winning the 126-pound title. Carter Dunlap as second at 106, and Layme Simon was fifth at 175. CAVALIER TOURNEYCOLDWATER – Bluffton's Mason Shank and Ottawa-Glandorf's Evan Rosengarten pinned their way to the semifinals, and both rebounded from their only losses of the tournament to place third in their weight class at the Cavalier Pool Wrestling Tournament hosted by Coldwater.Shank, competing in the 285-pound division, pinned four straight opponents before falling 6-0 to Van Wert's Breese Bollenbacher. In the consolation final for third place, Shank defeated Coldwater's Carter Heitkamp 9-0.Rosengarten scored three pins before dropping his 190-pound semifinal match to Kyle Harden of meet champion Indiana Cathedral Catholic. Rosengarten then clinched third place with a major decision victory over Ben Logan's Levi Achor.Liberty-Benton placed 12th, O-G 13th, Columbus Grove 14th and Bluffton 16th in the 23-school field.L-B's Ben Beard was fifth at 175. Andrew Berger (190) was sixth, Avery Springer (138) was seventh and Connor Kennedy (132), Jimmy Eisentrager (165), Zach Niese (190) and Maddyx Vermillion all placed eighth for the Eagles.In addition to Rosengarten, O-G's Owen Steffel (150) placed fourth, Landon Baumgartner (106) was fifth and Caleb Pulfer (285) eighth.Columbus Grove got a fourth-place finish from Griffin Zarse (113), a sixth from Kaden Little (215) and a seventh from Bailey Maag (190). Bluffton's Micah Rehm was fifth at 150. BUCYRUS POOL TOURNEYBUCYRUS – Upper Sandusky's Ethan Lewis won an individual championship and McComb's Brody Gallagher and Bluffton's Ronald Kaufman placed second at the Bucyrus Wrestling Tournament on Saturday.Lewis, a senior, pinned all four opponents he faced, including Smithville's Mason Haines in the final, to claim the 175-pound tournament title.Gallagher had four pins before falling to Kenton's Isaiah Mundy in the 150-pound championship match.Kaufman was runner-up at 120, falling 8-4 to Lorain's Caldon Rosario in his final match.Blufffton was eighth in the team standings. In addition to Kaufman's second place finish, Brandon Cross (126) was third, Alexander Nance (138) and Hephaestian Weyer (144) were fourth and Kohen Anderson (157) as sixth.McComb got fifth-place finishes from Brayden Crislip (106) and Kaydin Hedges-Sawinski (285) and Riverdale go a fifth-place effort from Kyden Reed (190).Upper Sandusky's Brylon Shepherd was third at 120. Girls Wrestling ARCHBOLD BRAWLARCHBOLD – Carey's Addi Hertel posted a 3-2 record, Elly Zimmerly went 2-2 and both placed fourth in their weight class on Saturday at the Archbold Bluestreak Brawl girls wrestling tournament.Hertel and Zimmerkly both scored all of their wins by pin. Carey placed 15th among the 27 teams in the event.
