FHS hockey goes 3-1 in weekend Holly Daze games

FINDLAY -- After three consecutive wins at the Holly Daze Tournament at the Cube, Findlay took on Dublin Jerome, the No. 4-ranked team in the state. The teams were tied at 1 after the first period Sunday, but then the Celtics erupted for four second-period goals, and doubled up the Trojans, 6-3 Sunday. Nick Myers and Dylan Forney each scored two goals for Jerome, while Jacob Hague and Theo Makrogiannis added one goal each. Makrogiannis also had two assists. Luke Myers had four assists for the Celtics. Josh Brink, Mason Shea and Nash Lange each had one assist. For Findlay, Colin Somerville had a goal and two assists, while Draven Wilson found the back of the net twice, and added an assist. Louis DiBerardino also had an assist for the Trojans. Brett Flanagan made 15 saves in goal for Findlay before giving way to Patrick Shively made 10 saves. For the Celtics, Collin Zuehlke had 20 saves in goal. In the first game Sunday, Cleveland Benedictine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Max Roulet and Mason Rezepka. But the Trojans, on two goals each by Ethan Jarew, DiBerardino and Wilson, stormed back, and beat the Bengals 8-2. Somerville and Jackson Flechtner also scored for Findlay. Jackson Biggs registered three assists for Findlay, while Cam Wight and Somerville each had two assists. Wilson, DiBerardino, Ryan Maas and Mac Archer each had an assist. Patrick Shively made 16 saves in goal for Findlay. Rezepka and Ty Jones each had an assist for the Bengals. Jeremy Ade had 21 saves in goal for Benedictine. Findlay got the tournament started on the right foot with a 3-1 win over New Albany on Saturday.Jaron Clark, Archer and Somerville scored Findlay's goals off assists from Ryan Maas and Louis DiBerardino.Findlay outshot New Albany 23-18, with FHS goalie Flanagan making 17 saves. The Trojans stand at 8-9, and will play Worthington Kilbourne in their final game of the tournament at 7 p.m. Monday. WRESTLING DEFIANCE – Liberty-Benton's Evie Parmelee followed an impressive victory in last week's Findlay Invitational Girls High School Tournament (FIGHT) by winning a second straight title on Saturday, finishing first in the 190-pound division of the Battle at the Fort girls wrestling event in Defiance.Parmelee, sixth in last season's state tournament, pinned Swanton's Ryleigh Chambers in the 190 championship match.Findlay High's Audrey Whitener also won an individual title at Defiance, scoring four straight first-period pins, including one in 1:19 against Archbold's Taeya Moyer in the 140-pound final.Three other Findlay High wrestlers were second and the Trojans tripled up in one weight class and doubled up in others in placing second among 29 schools in the event.McKenna Hanes, Connelly West and Dhani McCray all placed second for Findlay.Hanes, who also won an individual tile at the FIGHT event, scored two pins to reach the final at 235, West followed a first-round bye with a pin and a 3-1 decision over teammate Julie Bollenbacher to get to the championship match at 170, and McCray used two pins and a 7-4 decision to advance to the final match at 155.Bollenbacher went 3-1 with a bye in placing third at 170. Ellyse Cunningham's sixth-place finish gave Findlay three wrestlers scoring team points in that division. Findlay also doubled up at 235 where Natalie Winans placed fourth.Rah'Jia Williams (135) also placed fourth and Ava Deal (105) was fifth. Sarah Snider (115), Emmalynn Strausbaugh (125) and Aaliyah Romero (145) earned seventh-place finishes for the Trojans and Diago Tisdale (140) was eighth.Bella Flippin added a runner-up placing at 145 for Liberty-Benton. Addi Jones (170) and Morgan Smith (190) were fourth, Adelyn Clymer (125), Kella Settlemire (130) and Lauren Erdeljac (135) were fifth, and Addison Ramm (120) and Amelia Wicker (155) placed eighth.
