Findlay Council to revisit its own rules

FINDLAY — Findlay City Council is set to take another look at its own rules. A newly-formed ad hoc committee, tasked with reviewing council's rules of procedure, will meet for the first time today. The meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Findlay Municipal Building, 318 Dorney Plaza. All committee meetings are open to the public and are livestreamed on the city's YouTube channel: Findlay Ohio. Council members BJ Preston, R-2, Carol Smith, R-3, and L. Reed Needles, R-at-large, have been appointed to serve on the committee. At council's first meeting of the year, held Jan. 6, Councilman Dan DeArment, R-4, requested that the committee be formed. DeArment said that changes made to council's operating procedures "didn't work out as well as intended," and should be revisited. He also said that newly elected Council President David Murphy and City Law Director Robert Feighner Jr. have concerns about council procedures they would like to address. Murphy, a Republican, was unchallenged in his bid for council president in 2025. Former Council President John Harrington, also a Republican, did not seek reelection. DeArment stopped short of identifying specific procedures to be reviewed by the new committee.
