Carey FFA learns about Ag hazards

CAREY — On Jan. 7, Carey FFA partnered with the Carey Fire Department and Wyandot County EMS to conduct a high-stakes grain bin rescue demonstration, providing a look at a significant hazard in agriculture. The simulation featured a volunteer submerged in a gravity wagon, illustrating how quickly a routine task can turn into a life-threatening emergency. To execute the rescue, emergency personnel deployed specialized equipment, including a grain rescue tube and a portable auger. These tools worked to shield the volunteer from the crushing pressure of the grain while safely extracting the corn from the immediate area. The event served as a "living classroom" for students and community members. By witnessing the technical precision required for such a rescue, attendees gained a firsthand understanding of the dangers of grain entrapment. The demonstration underscored a vital message for the Carey agricultural community: while equipment and training can save lives, consistent safety protocols are the best defense against tragedy. The Carey FFA extended a thank you to Fire Chief Chad Snyder and all of the emergency workers who assisted with the event.
