Hancock County under Level 2 weather emergency

FINDLAY — Hancock County Sheriff Mike Cortez has ordered the county be put under a Level 2 weather emergency until further notice. The Level 2 winter weather advisory means roads are considered extremely hazardous, with blowing and drifting snow. "Only those who feel it is necessary to travel should be on the roadways," reads a description of the advisory on the Hancock County Sheriff's Office website. The city of Findlay Mayor's Office Facebook page posted a note to citizens Monday morning urging extra caution to travelers. "The city of Findlay team is actively working to keep the roads as safe as possible, but given the continued unpredictability of the weather, it is challenging. Please avoid driving if possible and use additional caution if out. Please continue to monitor the advisories for additional details," it reads. The National Weather Service issued a cold advisory for Hancock and surrounding counties, from 1 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday. The report states the county could see cold wind chills as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero. "The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken," it states. Such precautions include wearing proper winter clothing if going outdoors, using extra caution while traveling and avoiding too much exposure to the freezing temperatures. Findlay's Black Heritage Library and Multicultural Center canceled the walk portion of its annual MLK Celebration. They still plan to hold a gathering with prayers and a celebration program with keynote speaker Pastor Kristopher J. Johnson of Unity Christian Ministries in Findlay at 7 p.m., at the Church of the Living God, 701 N. Main St.
