Trojans go 1-1-1 in Strongsville

STRONGSVILLE – Findlay's hockey team traveled to the Walsh Jesuit MLK Tournament in Strongsville this weekend, and came away with a 1-1-1 record.The Trojans wrapped up the tournament with a 2-2 tie with Padua Franciscan Monday. The tie moved FHS to 12-10-2.Findlay trailed 2-0, then came back, getting a goal from Louis DiBerardino off an assist from Draven Wilson to make it 2-1. It tied the game when Mac Archer scored off a DeBerardino assist.Both goals were on power plays. Patrick Shively had 25 saves in goal for the Trojans.The Trojans opened the tournament on Saturday with a 6-2 win over New Albany, then on Sunday, fell to Rocky River, 5-4.In Friday's game with the Eagles, Findlay was shut out in the first period, then scored three goals in the second and three goals in the third.Findlay's Ethan Jarew got things rolling by converting a power-play goal on assists by Colin Somerville and DiBerardino. That was followed by a Cam Wight score, which came off an assist by Jaron Clark.With less than two minutes to go in the second, Wilson found the back of the net off assists by Somerville and DiBerardino.Goals by Jackson Flechtner and Somerville followed – less than a minute apart – early in the third period. Hayden Jarew and DiBerardino assisted on Flechtner's goal; Wilson and LT Teegardin assisted on Somerville's score. Flechtner capped the scoring – with two seconds left in regulation – by converting a Mac Archer assist. Shively was in goal for the Trojans, making 19 saves.For New Albany (which dropped to 4-15 after losing to FHS), Owen Zhang and Will Yoho each had a goal. Ian Liebert and Abram Alvarado assisted on the second goal.Ben Klueppel had 25 saves in goal for the Eagles. Against the Pirates, Findlay's Jackson Briggs found the back of the net off a Wilson assist – his second of the game – to tie the game at 4 with 1:12 left in regulation.But Rocky River got the last laugh.Less then one minute later, with just 20 seconds remaining, Cashion Cooler converted off assists from Jackson Rood and Nolan Toole for the game-winning score.Archer got things going in the first period for the Trojans, scoring an unassisted goal with 9:40 left in the opening period.The Pirates answered with a pair of first-period goals. Kyle Rush converted on a power play off a Luka Lamastra assist with 1:38 left. Less than 80 seconds later, Rood scored off assists from Toole and Rush.Findlay tied things at 2 with 15:49 remaining in the second period when Wilson scored an unassisted goal.Rocky River retook the lead when Dominic Kovi scored a power play goal with 11:04 left in the second period. Overton assisted on the goal.The Pirates made it 4-2 less than three minutes later when Rush scored off a Kohler assist.Ethan Jarew's goal, with 10:58 left and coming off assists from Wilson and DiBerardino, made it 4-3.Brett Flanagan made 25 saves in goal for the Trojans. Findlay will be back in action Friday at The Cube, when it hosts Toledo St. Francis, the No. 2 team in the state. It is also Findlay's Hockey Fights Cancer game.
