New doctor added to the Psychiatric Center of Northwest Ohio

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) has welcomed Bethany Uhrig, PhD, to the Psychiatric Center of Northwest Ohio. Dr. Uhrig is a licensed psychologist with more than 10 years of clinical training and experience. She is dedicated to providing compassionate mental healthcare to her patients. Prior to joining BVHS, she practiced psychology at the Mental Health Clinic at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. There, she provided psychological assessments and evidence-based individual and group psychotherapy to military veterans. Additionally, she supervised, trained, and mentored psychology interns and psychiatry residents as they gained hands-on clinical experience. "We are proud to welcome Dr. Uhrig to BVHS," said Kelly Shroll, RD, LD, MBA, chief operating officer of ambulatory services. "Mental health is a vital part of overall wellness, and BVHS is dedicated to expanding access to these services in our community. Dr. Uhrig's expertise and commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-focused care will make her a valuable member of Team BVHS." Dr. Uhrig has extensive training and experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which she uses to treat a variety of emotional disorders, including a special interest in social anxiety. Using CBT, she helps patients challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and promotes adaptive behavior and coping. She also has specialized training in interpersonal psychotherapy for depression (IPT) and acceptance and commitment therapy for depression (ACT-D). IPT is aimed at alleviating depression symptoms by understanding and enhancing one's relationships with others. ACT-D employs mindfulness and acceptance techniques to build psychological flexibility, helping patients to recognize their negative thoughts without engaging with them. Dr. Uhrig holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she graduated Magna cum Laude. She then completed a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She remained at Ohio University, where she completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology. "I am excited to be part of BVHS, where I will continue to provide essential mental health support to those in need," said Dr. Uhrig. My goal is to deliver high-quality care that is tailored to meet the needs of each individual and is grounded in both science and human connection."
