Schank leads Bluffton at Thunderbird Invite

WRESTLINGLIMA – Bluffton's Mason Shank was second in his weight class at the Thunderbird Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.Shank rattled off four straight wins before falling to Delta's Brody Smith in the final 285-pound match.Bluffton's Ronald Kaufman (120) and McComb's Brody Gallagher (150) placed third in their divisions.Columbus Grove's Jacob Palte (120) was fifth, Bluffton's Hephaestion Weyer (14) was sixth, Grove's Baylee Maag (190) was seventh, and McComb's Ashtin Gallagher (132), Cory-Rawson's Hayden Walters (120) and Ottawa-Glandorf's Caleb Pulfer (285) placed eighth. SALLY GEORGE INVITEMARION – Riverdale's Grady Phelps was a weight-class champion and two other area wrestlers placed third at the Sally George Invitational.Phelps, a sophomore competing in the 138-pound division, was undefeated in the meet. He capped his day with an 18-4 major decision over Liberty Center's Daine Bayer in the final match.Two Upper Sandusky wrestlers placed third, Braylon Shepherd at 120 and Ethan Lewis at 157. Both scored major decision wins in their consolation finals.Riverdale's Kydin Reed placed third at 190, and Ada's Carter Dunlap (106) was fifth. JOE SZYMCZAK DUALSBLOOMDALE — Liberty-Benton went 3-2 at the 2026 Joe Szymczak Duals, while host Elmwood went 1-2.In Pool A, the Eagles defeated Northwood 38-26, topped Maumee 36-18 and lost to Perkins, 65-8.In Pool B, Elmwood got a bye, then topped Bowling Green 50-29.In the Finals round, Napoleon topped the Royals 51-24, while Perkins topped Elmwood, 48-30. MARYS — Van Buren 144-pounder Brooks Hill, 190-pounder Landon Miller and Drew Phillips each went 7-2, and Van Buren finished fifth out of 21 teams at the St. Marys Duals. Hill notched his 100th career win, while also reach 150 overall wins. Black Knight 132-pounder Cooper Hanna went 6-3. GYMNASTICS MEDINA -- Josey Weihrauch won the beam event, was second in the bars and all-around, and led Findlay to runner-up finish at the Royal Challenge Meet in Medina. Buckeye won the event, edging the Trojans 133.85-128.35. Cory-Rawson finished fourth in the five-team event, with 33 points. Weihrauch won the beam in 8.65, while she finished runner-up in the all-around with a 33.95 and runner-up in the bars with an 8.40. In the bars, Weihrauch finished just ahead of the Hornets' Maddi Oman, who scored a 33.0. Oman tied with Weihrauch in the floor standings with a third-place 8.80. Findlay's Renee Metzger had a fourth-place finish on the floor and the bars (8.0). Bella Lonaker registered a fourth-place 8.40 on the beam, while Oman had a sixth-place 8.15. On the vault, Metzger finished fifth (8.15), one spot ahead of Weihrauch (8.10). Metzger placed sixth (32.50) in the all-around. SWIMMINGLIMA – Autumn Steffen had a hand in four first-place finishes in leading Ottawa-Glandorf to the girls championship of the Western Buckeye League swim meet held at the Lima Family YMCA on Saturday.O-G outdistanced Lima Shawnee 368–227 in the girls scoring. The Titans were third (222) in the WBL boys standingsSteffen swam to first-place efforts in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.07) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.07). She was also on two winning relays with Karlee Maag and Alaina Klass, the 200 freestyle (1:41.29) that included Abigail Nelson, and the 200 medley relay that included Kelsey Schmitz (1:53.54).O-G also got individual championships from Maag in the 200 free (2:03.42), Klass in the 500 free (5:52.68) and Schmitz in diving (350.50).Colin Steffen was a double winner for O-G's boys by finishing first in the 200 IM (2:02.04) and 100 free (48.66).O-G's Parker McGraw won the 100 backstroke (54.96).\ BOWLINGFOSTORIA – Liberty-Benton won the boys title and Upper Sandusky took the girls crown at the Northern Ohio Bowling League championship held in Fostoria.Liberty-Benton won the boys title with a score of 4,004 in the league's opening meet and a 3,898 in Saturday's final.
