Seneca East rolls to 77-58 win over Redskins

S. EAST &emsp;&emsp;77 ARCADIA &emsp;&emsp;58 ATTICA – Seneca East had its offense in high gear on Wednesday when the Tigers put up a season-high 77 points in a 77-58 nonleague win over Arcadia. Jaron Depinet, a 6-foot-2 freshman, poured in 28 points and senior guard Luke Mason scored 25 as they combined for 53 of the Tiger 77 points. Seneca East, which started the season 9-1, improved to 15-5 overall. Arcadia trailed just 34-30 at the break, but was outscored 43-28 in the second half. Isaac Stoner scored 15 points, Owen Green had 12 and Grady Bronston added 10 for the Redskins, who are 12-7 heading into Friday's Blanchard Valley Conference matchup at Vanlue. (14-sub head) Bowling OHSAA TOURNAMENT FOSTORIA – Jarrett Birkemeier rolled a 610 series in leading Liberty-Benton to the team title in the Division II boys sectional bowling tournament held at Bowlero Lanes in Fostoria. Caden Sithong added a 589 series and Rob Greiner a 567 as L-B topped the field with a 3,900 team total. The Eagles were fourth (2,745) in regulation game scoring, but won the title with a sectional high of 1,155 in Baker games. Bucyrus (3,898), Lima Bath (3,854) and Wynford (3,798) rounded out the top four that qualified for the Division II district to be held Feb. 19 at Interstate Lanes in Rossford. Upper Sandusky placed seventh (3.344), Hopewell-Loudon eighth (3,283), North Baltimore ninth (3,254) and Fostoria 13th (2,597) in the sectional standings. Upper Sandusky's Afton Green (557) and North Baltimore's Noah Laureano (558) qualified for district as individuals from non-advancing teams, along with Kenton's Eban Albert (606) and Lakota's Alex Speck (595). Bluffton's boys bowling team will also be competing in the district tournament after placing third in the Division II sectional at River City Bowl-A-Way Lanes in Napoleon. Led by Coby Dailey's 616 series, Bluffton put up a 2,795 regulation score and a 1,107 Baker games total. Weston Johnstone added a 543 series for the Pirates, and Joziah Salazar had a 526. The Division I sectional tournaments involving Findlay High bowlers will be held Feb. 17 (boys) and Feb. 19 (girls) at Community Lanes in Minster. (14-sub head) O-G hires Kaufman OTTAWA – Ottawa-Glandorf will be staying in-house and, pending approval by the O-G Board of Education, will be hiring Ben Kaufman as the school's next football coach. Kaufman has been an assistant in the program for the past 10 years. A 2009 O-G grad who played linebacker and tight end for the Titans, Kaufman was also a four-year letterman for Bluffton University, accumulating 147 career tackles for the Beavers. "I'm appreciative for the last 10 years that I coached under Ken Schriner and aware that I have some big shoes to fill," Kaufman said in a statement released by the school on Wednesday. Schriner, who compiled a 204-122 record over a 30-year career as O-G head coach, stepped down following the 2025 season. He guided O-G to the playoffs in 17 of his 30 seasons at the school, including state semifinal appearances in 2009 and 2021.
