FHS gymnastics finishes fourth at NLL

NLL GYMNASTICSTOLEDO – Findlay's Josey Weihrauch placed third in the all-around scoring on Friday and the Trojans finished fourth in the team standings of the 2026 Northern Lakes League gymnastics meet held at Exceleration Gymnastics Center in Toledo.Perrysburg compiled 135.325 points in winning the NLL title for the 12th straight year. Springfield finished second (133.875) and Anthony Wayne (132.825) nipped Findlay (132.475) for third. Sylvania Northview (127.025), Napoleon (120.275), Oregon Clay (110.35), Toledo Whitmer (56.425) and Sylvania Southview ((30.75) completed the field.Competition in the all-around scoring was as close as the team standings.Springfield's Alexa Bellman was the all-around champion with 35.175 points. Runner-up honors were a heated race with Perrysburg's Janie Snyder (34.325), Weihrauch (34.175) and Napoleon's Bella Bingham (34.100) separated by less than half a point.Findlay's Renee Metzger (32.875) was seventh in the all-around standings, Avalon Sprang (32.275) was 12th and Bella Lonaker 14th (32.225).On individual events, Weihrauch was second on uneven bars (8.600) and vault (9.000) and third on floor (9.150).Metzger was fourth on floor (9.100), ninth on bars (8.250) and tied for 13thon vault (8.000). Sprang was fourth on vault (8.600), tied for 11th on bars (7.750) and 12th on floor (8.650). Lonaker tied for 12th on beam (8.175) and was 13th on bars (7.650), 14th on floor (8,550) and 15th on vault (7.850).Findlay's Lily Huff added a top ten placing on bars, finishing ninth (8.200). SWIMMING BOWLING GREEN – Ottawa-Glandorf's Autumn Steffen was a district champion in one event, runner-up in two and likely will be competing at state in four after a strong showing in the girls portion of the Division II OHSAA district swim meet held at Bowling Green State University on Friday.Steffen, a sophomore, won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.32, edging Colonel Crawford freshman Sophia Keller (1:06.56) in a heated race in which just .6 of a second separated the top four swimmers.Steffen was also second in the 100 butterfly (59.60) and swam on two state-qualifying relays, the second-place 400 free relay with Abigail Nelson, Alaina Klass and Karlee Maag (3:43.44), and the fourth-place 200 free relay (1:42.79) with Maag, Klass and Kelsey Schmitz.Maag was sixth (55.65) in the 100 free and O-G, which was fourth in the team standings, added a fourth from the 200 medley relay team of Schmitz, Nelson, Maag and Klass (1:42.79).Bluffton's Kari Diller and Jenna Downey are likely state bound as well, although final qualifying spots will not be determined until Sunday when times from district meets across the state are tabulated. Downey placed fourth in the 50 free (24.69) and Diller was fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.61).O-G's Schmitz will be diving at state after placing fourth in the district meet with a score of 387.15.In the Division II boys meet at BGSU, Bluffton's Jackson Bowlus was district runner-up in two events. Bowlus posted a time of 21.82 in placing second in the 50 free, and 53.26 as runner-up in the 100 back. Bowlus, Camden Verb and Aaron Ungaschick also teamed with Max Fritsch on the 11th-place 400 free relay (3:31.36) and with Owen Armstrong on the sixth-place 200 medley relay (1:42.76). Verb was also eighth in the district in the 500 free (5:01.89).Ottawa-Glandorf's Colin Steffen was fifth in the 100 free (48.34), sixth in the 200 IM (2:00.76), and a member of two top ten relays, the 400 free (3:27.39) and the 200 medley (1:43.17) that includedParker McGraw, Mason Trombley and Sam Warnecke.
