FHS swimmer Abbott win two district races, qualifies for state

SWIMMING DISTRICT MEETBOWLING GREEN – Findlay High sophomore Tillie Abbott won district titles in her freestyle specialties at the Division I district swim meet held at Bowling Green State University on Saturday.Abbott raced to first place finishes in both the 50- (23.72) and 100-yard (51.37) freestyle. Both placings qualify her for this week's state meet in Canton, and she could be bringing several FHS teammates with her, based on statewide times achieved in Saturday's district meets.Abbott was also part of a 200 free relay team, along with Norah Dolan, Ava Blide and Emmalynn Cisco that was 11th at districts (1:44.81). Dolan also placed 16th in the 100 butterfly (1:04.55) and 17th in the 200 IM (2:22.38).Led by senior Jake Best, Findlay's boys turned in a number of top ten showings on Saturday.Best also did well in the freestyle events, finishing sixth in the 200 (1:46.75) and 11th in the 100 (49.32). He also teamed with Kai Borsay, Nicholas Kasiborski and Stephan Mahler on two freestyle relays, the 200 free that finished fourth (1:30.06) and the 400 that was eighth (3:21,52).Borsay was 13th in the 50 (22.52) and 20th in the 100 (50.06), with Mahler (20th, 50, 22.90; 21st 100, 50:37) placing in both freestyle events as well.Maddox Debelak was 10th in the 100 backstroke (55.91) and 14th in the 200 IM (2:07.69). Kasiborski was 21st in both the 100 back (1:00.06) and 100 fly (56.91). Duncan Black was 22nd in the 100 fly (57.07) and Joe Dusseau was 30th in the 100 breast (1:08.88) and teamed with Debelak, Black and Dean Jax on the 200 medley relay that was 13th (1:45.59). BALTIMORE 32WAYNESFIELD – Turner Thompson poured in 11 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter in powering Waynesfield-Goshen to a 47-32 win over North Baltimore in the final Northwest Central Conference game for both teams.Corbin Barnes added 11 points for Waynesfield-Goshen, 11-11 overall and 5-4 in NWCC games. RIVERDALE 57 USV 37 MOUNT BLANCHARD -- Riverdale established a lead on Upper Scioto Valley early, finished with three players scoring in double figures, and wrapped its regular season with a 57-37 non-conference victory over visiting Upper Scioto Valley. Grady Haley scored 12 points for the Falcons, who led 18-10 after the first quarter and never looked back in improving to 14-8. Hayden Scott added 11 points for Riverdale, while Grant Inbody scored 10. Upper Scioto Valley received 11 points from Hunter Damron. The Rams fell to 13-9. Riverdale will travel to Columbus Grove to open the postseason against the Bulldogs in a 6 p.m. Division VI sectional final.
