Three Trojan wrestlers qualify for district meet

BOYS WRESTLING DIVISION IOREGON – Findlay High's Kaliber Brubaker placed third in the 120-pound weight class to qualify for this weekend's district wrestling tournament at Perrysburg.Also qualifying for district with top-four placings were Lincoln Kirian (157), and Caleb Kanney (175). Teague Perkins (106), Martin Gonzalez (113) and Alex Mendoza (126) placed fifth or the Trojans, while Robert Palmer (138), Cameron Trice (165) and Tyler Gonder (215) were sixth. DIVISION IIIVAN BUREN – Mohawk scored 166 points to win the team title and Elmwood (148.5) edged Van Buren (147.5) by one point for second in the Division III boys sectional wrestling tournament hosted by Van Buren on Saturday.Bluffton (122) placed fifth in the 17-team field and Liberty-Benton (110) nipped Carey (108) for sixth. Wrestlers finishing among the top four earned a bid to the Division III district this week in Norwalk.Riverdale's Grady Phelps, the No. 3-ranked 138-pounder in Division III, continued his strong season. The sophomore, 36-3 on the season, scored a 16-1 technical fall win over Mohawk's Brant Kirian in that championship match.Bluffton had three sectional champions in Ronald Kaufman, Brandon Cross and Mason Shank.Kaufman (38-4) scored a 3-1 decision over Carey's Fisher Montgomery in the 120-pound final, Cross (35-9) pinned Arcadia's Wade Trout in 1:46 for the 126 sectional championship, and Sank40-6 on the season, chalked up an 11- major decision over Elmwood's Christopher Clark, Jr.Elmwood and McComb both had two wrestlers claim sectional championships.McComb's Brody Gallagher took home the 150 title with an 18-6 major decision victory over Arcadia's Kale Price, and Kaydin Hedges-Sawinski won the 285 division when he pinned Arcadia's Zach Altvater in 46 seconds.Elmwood's individual champions were Zechariah Patterson at 106 and Zachary Schafer at 132. In the final matches, Patterson scored a 13-4 major decision over Patrick henry's Kayden Robinette, and Schafer posted an 11-0 major decision over McComb's Ashtin Gallagher.Liberty-Benton's Ben Beard upped his personal record to 41-8 and capped the tournament with an 11-2 victory over Van Buren's Drew Phillips.Carey's Jordan Hertel, 44-4 in the 157-pound division, beat Hopewell-Loudon's Isaiah Hook 23-3 in that final, Columbus Grove's Griffin Zarse topped Tiffin Calvert's Dante Fabrizio 17-3 in the 131 final, and Patrick Henry's Trent Johnson defeated Riverdale's Kydin Reed for the title at 190.VAN BUREN SECTIONALTEAM STANDINGS -- 1. Huelett North (126), Barrett Hernandez (144) and Blake Hernandez (285) finished fourth in also qualifying for the Division II district meet in Norwalk.In the Division II sectional at Defiance, Ottawa-Glandorf's Evan Rosengarten punched his ticket to district by placing second in the 190-pound weight class competition.Upper Sandusky's Ethan Lewis ran his record to 34-4 by pinning Clear Fork's Luke Lee in 1:30 in the 157-pound final of the Division II sectional at Galion.Also advancing to the Norwalk District was Upper's Brayon Shepherd, who was fourth at 120. DIVISION III LIMA – Silas Riblet won a sectional title and there three other Ada wrestlers qualified for the OHSAA Division III district following competition at Lima Central Catholic on Saturday.Riblet pinned Lima Central Catholic's Kyllan Martin in 3:58 of their championship match.Also placing among the top four and qualifying for this week's Division III district at Rossford were 106-pound runner-up Carter Dunlap and fourth-place finishers Zaiden Denslow (120) and Kale Pedersen (138). GIRLS WRESTLING CLYDE – Carey's Elly Zimmerly pinned both of her opponents to win the 235-pound division at Friday's girls sectional wrestling tournament in Clyde.Addi Hertel (125) went 3-1 and was second. Dakota McKinney (190) was third and Claire DeAmisic (105) fourth in also earning a top four placing that qualified them for the district meet to be held Sunday in Findlay.Lydia Black (140) was fifth and will be an alternate to the district.
