Four area athletes earn NW district POY honors

FINDLAY – The strength of girls basketball programs in Findlay and surrounding areas was reflected in the 2026 Ohio Prep Sportswriters Media Association all-Northwest District selections with four players and the coaches earning top honors.Findlay's Davinee Harris, Columbu Grove's Nicole Nesby, Patrick Henry Carys Crossland and North Baltimore's Lacie Allison either won outright or shared player of the year honors in their divisions. Ottawa- Glandorf's Troy Yant, Columbus Grove's Brian Schroeder and North Baltimore's Clinton Ebright were recognized as coaches of the year. Harris, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard, averaged 20.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in leading Findlay to a 15-7 season. A two-time all-Northern Lakes League player, Harris was third-team all-Ohio her freshman year.Already a three-time all-Ohio selection as a freshman (honorable mention), sophomore (special mention) and junior (first team) Erford averaged 18.8. points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists for an O-G team that was unbeaten (22-0) in regular season play and ranked No. 1 in the Division V state polls. During the season, the University of Findlay signee passed Kadie Hempfling (1,231 points) as the all-time leading scorerin O-G girls basketball history.With five schools ranked among the top eight, Division VI is especially strong in Northwest Ohio and that was reflected in the OPSWMA selections with Crossland and Nesby part of a five-girl group sharing player of the year honors.Nesby, a 6-foot senior who was one of the top players on the 2025 state championship, averaged 14.1 points and 10 rebounds a game for the No. 5-ranked Bulldogs. Crossland,a 5-10 senior and the District 7 and Northwest Ohio Athletic League Plyer of the Year, averaged 16.9 points for the No. 6-ranked Patriots.Allison made a big splash her freshman year at North Baltimore and bigger waves as a sophomore. A 5-7 guard, Allison averaged 34.2 points, 10 rebounds and six steals in leading the Tigers to a 20-2 record and Northwest Central Conference title.Allison scored 61 points in 86-68 win over Sandusky, scored 52 (and had 18 rebounds) against Marion Elgin and made 10 3-pointers and scored 40 points against Cory-Rawson. According to records on the OHSAA website, she is only the fifth girl in Ohio Prep basketball history to score 800 or more points in a season.Yant, the OPSWMA Coach of the Year in Division V, has built one of Ohio most successful programs in the middle of Putnam County. His first team at O-G (2012-13) went 16-9 and every one since has won 20 or more games. Yant's 333-45 career record includes ten Western Buckeye League championships in the past 11 seasons, six regional tittles and three state runner-up finishes.Schroeder and Ebright had had similar success at Columbus Grove and North Baltimore as well.After guiding the Bulldogs to the Division VI state championship last season, Schroeder and th Bulldogs continued that trend by going 7-0 in both the Northwest Conference and Putnam County League, 19-3 overall and a return trip to the Division VI regional.Ebright took over a struggling North Baltimore program and won 16 games his second year as head coach. This season the tigers were 21-4 and won the Northwest Central Conference crown, the school's first league title since 1990.McComb's Morgan Kern (17.4 ppg), Leipsic freshman Kya Brandt (22 ppg), Pandora-Gilboa's Ava Huffman (15.4 ppg) and Arcadia's Liberty Voges (15 ppg) joined Allison on the Division VII first team.Pandora-Gilboa's Savannah Knueven (15.8 ppg), Arlington's Jada Smith (14.1 ppg) and Arcadia's Addy Coleman (10 ppg) were second-team selections, with Hopewell-Loudon's Karsyn Snyder earned third-team honors.Riverdale's Marissa Bonham (16.5 ppg) joined Crossland and Nesby on the Division VI first team.Carey's Emily Brodman (88.9 ppg) and Patrick Henry's Ada Christman (11.5 ppg) were second-team picks, and Columbus Grove's Kendal Palte (11.2 ppg) made third team.Liberty-Benton's Corra Dehart (10.9 ppg) and Megan Gerken (12.1 ppg) were first- and second-team respectively.Along with Erford, Ottawa-Glandorf's Madison McKee (1st-team, 12.6 ppg) and Alivia Grothause (2nd-team, 7.1 ppg) were recognized from the Titans unbeaten, No. 1-ranked team.Findlay's Maggie Crates (7.8 ppg) was a second team pick in Division I, and Elmwood's Salena Deal (15.7 ppg) was a second team selection in Division V.
