Carey agrees to provide wastewater to Kalmbach

CAREY — Carey Village Council considered a resolution to provide wastewater services to Kalmbach Feeds for a new pet food plant to be constructed just outside the village. Late last year, village administrator Mike Roszman told council he had received a proposal from Kalmbach leadership asking the village to provide water services to the plant. He also said he had concerns about current village infrastructure and the village would need major upgrades before the project could be considered. Earlier this month during a regular village council meeting, Jon Russel, Kalmbach engineer, told council Kalmbach is doing approximately $200 million worth of capital projects locally and would create approximately 250 local jobs in the next one to two years. "We're getting to pet food for the first time," Russel said. Russel said Kalmbach is looking for wastewater services from the village and is willing to limit the daily amount to 10,000 gallons of wastewater that would be added to village infrastructure. He also said the business was working with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for permitting to drill potable wells. "We did some studies and there was very negligible impact (to the village infrastructure)," Russel said. "We would pay a $28,000 sewer bill monthly and we would fund 100% of the capital costs." Council later approved a resolution confirming the village's "finding of feasibility and intent to provide wastewater services to Kalmbach Feeds, subject to final routing and engineering." The resolution was filed as an emergency due to the time-sensitive nature of the project.
