Be sure you're registered to vote

FINDLAY — The deadline to register to vote for the May 5 primary election is Monday, April 6, the Hancock County Board of Elections reported. People can register to vote in a variety of locations. The elections board, at 201 E. Lincoln St., rear entrance, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 6. Additionally people can register to vote at the following locations: Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, McComb Library, Fostoria License Bureau, Kaubisch Memorial Public Library, Findlay License Bureau, Fostoria Auditor's office, Hancock County Court House Treasurer and Auditor offices, Women Infants & Children (WIC) Office, Department of Job and Family Services and the Department of Developmental Disabilities. The qualifications to register to vote are: citizen of the United States; 18-years-old by Nov. 3; resident of Ohio for at least 30 days immediately before the election. Voters can go to the elections board website — www.hancockcountyohioelections.gov — to see if they are registered at their current address. A person's registered address may be changed online or at the elections board office until 9 p.m. April 6. Early voting Early in-person absentee voting for the May 5 primary election will begin in the elections board office on Tuesday, April 7. The elections board will be open the following business hours for in-person absentee voting for the Nov. 4 general election: • Tuesday, April 7 — Friday, April 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Tuesday, April 13 — Friday April 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Monday, April 20 — Friday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Monday, April 27, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. • Tuesday, April 28, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. • Wednesday, April 29 — Friday, May 1, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. • Saturday, May 2, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. • Sunday, May 3, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Absentee ballot applications must be mailed by Tuesday, April 28. The elections board's website also shows what candidates and issues will be on the ballot. At the website, voters also can find out where their voting precinct is located to vote on election day. The elections board can be reached at 419-422-3245 for more information on absentee balloting or to request an application for voting by mail; or people can go to www.hancockcountyohioelections.gov to print out an absentee application. Applications also may be picked up at the drop box located to the east of the elections board's entrance door.
