Shady Grove Golf Course may be repurposed

FINDLAY — The Shady Grove Golf Course, a fixture on U.S. 224 for more than 50 years, may be redeveloped as a home for high-end apartments. Legislation outlining the services Findlay will provide to the annexation of the 46-acre site, located at 15733 U.S. 224, was introduced to Findlay City Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday. It's the first step in the city's annexation process. Council will then vote separately on the annexation itself. The resolution confirms the city's ability to extend services such as utilities, roadway maintenance, fire and police protection and other municipal support once annexation becomes effective. The site sits just outside Findlay's eastern boundary in Marion Township. On Tuesday, Mayor Christina Muryn said redevelopment of the land will qualify for revenue sharing with the township under the city's current agreement. The petition, sought by property owners, was approved by the Hancock County Board of Commissioners earlier this month. It went through an expedited process with the county, which left the commissioners with no choice but to approve it. Under the expedited Type-1 process, Ohio county commissioners must approve such petitions automatically, without a public hearing, at their next regular meeting, so long as the legal description is correct and signatures meet statutory requirements. Expedited Type-1 annexation is the simplest of the state's annexation procedures. It requires unanimous property-owner approval and consent from both the township and municipality.
