Shawnee gets past Findlay, 4-1

FINDLAY – Findlay High junior Owen Vick came out ahead in a second-set tie-breaker against Lima Shawnee on Friday. Shawnee swept the other four matches, though, in posting a 4-1 win over the Trojan s in the 2026 boys tennis season opener for both teams.Vick is one of the top returning veterans from a Findlay High team that finished second last season in both Northern Lakes League regular season matches and the league tournament. In Friday's opener, he dispatched Shawnee's Lila Brennan 6-0, 7-5.Vick was NLL runner-up at No. 3 singles last season. This year he has moved up to No. 1 singles following heavy graduation losses that cost the Trojans Sam Swisher and Luke Williams, who were NLL runners-up at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, the entire No. 2 doubles team of Jon Dornbush and Cohen Perkins, and Owen Metz from the Trojans' No. 1 doubles team.Findlay thus had several new faces in the lineup for Friday's opener. At No. 2 singles, Aidan Buddelmeyer, a junior, dropped a 6-0, 7-5 decision to Shawnee's Mason Latham, and at No. 3 singles, senior Ashton Barger fell 6-3, 6-2 to Chase Carpenter.In doubles matches, Shawnee's Sam Conrad and Sailor Drury topped senior Jake Best and junior Grant Basinger 6-3, 6-1, and at No. 2 Aidan Latham and Brandt McGreevy scored a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Findlay's Quinn Tiell, a senior, and junior Miles Ary.Rounding out Findlay's varsity roster this season will be seniors Tyler Asel and Noah Klink and freshmen Knox Lindahl, Sawyer Strunk and Ketan Chowdavarapu.The turnover in the program includes the coaching ranks as well, with Larry Jones replacing Jen Abell as Trojans' head coach.Findlay is on the road today when the Trojans compete in the St. Marys Memorial Tournament. GROVE 0COLUMBUS GROVE – Ottawa-Glandorf pitchers Carson Yaegar and Will Siefker combined on a three-hit shutout, and the Titans took advantage of six Columbus Grove errors in a 3-0 season-opening win on Friday.O-G managed just three hits itself, but pushed across two runs in the third and one in the fourth.Yaegar started on the mound for the Titans, and went five innings. BALTIMORE 1NORTH BALTIMORE – Holgate used three two-run rallies to keep the pressure on North Baltimore and eventually beat the Tigers 9-1 on Friday.Holgate led 5-0 after three innings and padded its lead with two run rallies in the fifth and seventh.
