Findlay goes 2-0 in St. Marys

Boys tennis ST. MARYS – Owen Vick swept both of his matches, Jake Best was a two-time winner in doubles and Aidan Buddelmeyer and Ashton Barger split overtime matches as Findlay High's boys tennis team chalked up its first wins of the season on Saturday, beating Bryan and St. Marys Memorial by identical 3-2 scores at the St. Marys Invitational Tournament.Vick, a junior playing No. 1 singles for FHS, got both matches started off well, beating Bryan's Kai Dauber and St. Marys' Jake Arkroyd by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores.Best teamed with Barger at No. 1 doubles to score a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Bryan's Austin DeWitt and Carter Montalvo, then partnered with Quin Tiell for a 6-3, 6-2 decision over the St. Marys team of Noah White and Korey Klosterman.Findlay's No. 2 doubles team of Miles Ary and Grant Basinger got the clinching win against Bryan when they beat Simon Kellogg and Philip Kellogg 6-0, 6-2.Bryan had carbon-copy wins against Findlay, with Nolan Franzdorf beating Buddelmeyer at No. 2 singles and Brendan Roberts at No.3 topping Zack Barnhart by identical 6-2, 6-4 scors.Winning one of two overtime matches sealed the deal against St, Marys, and Buddelmeyer did that by knocking off Ollie Chisholm 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 at No. 2 singles.Barger dropped a marathon 6-1, 4-6, 11-9 battle to Bradey Triplett at No. 3 singles. St. Marys also won the No. 2 doubles matchup where Trent Rane and Lincoln Jams defeated Barnhart and Basinger 6-1, 6-3.
