Coleman to speak at Good Friday breakfast

FINDLAY — The annual community-wide Good Friday breakfast, a Findlay tradition for more than 60 years, will be held at 8 a.m. Friday at the DOCK at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 800 S. Main St. The event is open to the public regardless of denomination or any religious affiliation. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at St. Marks' church office or at the door. Proceeds will go toward the local National Day of Prayer on May 7. Attendees will gather to remember the courage of Jesus and to be invited into a personal, living relationship with Him. In addition to the breakfast and scripture readings, the speaker will be Nichole Coleman, the former director of the Hancock County Veterans Services Office and a current city councilperson and chief cultural officer for TurboVets. Her talk is titled "One Man Awake: Discernment and Light in Our Community." Coleman said she will share a hopeful call to live courageously, listen closely to the Holy Spirit and discern the next right step in everyday life. Those attending will leave encouraged and challenged to bring light into hard places — at home, at work and across the community because when one person wakes up to God, it never stays with one person. The Good Friday breakfast has been a tradition in Findlay for decades. The Findlay Y Men's Club, a local chapter of the International Y Men's Association, was chartered in 1948 with the mission to help the YMCA financially. From the early 1960's until 2016, the Y Men annually put on this event with the proceeds going toward youth scholarships for the Y. When the kitchen was removed during the local Y's remodeling in the 1990's, the event was moved to St. Mark's church as it was close by and several members of the Y Men were active in that congregation. In 2018, the Band of Brothers group at St. Mark's which has now expanded to include several sisters — BOBS — took over from the then disbanded Y Men in hosting this event and hopes to continue the tradition into the future.
