Trojans trounce Clay, 19-0

FINDLAY &emsp;&emsp;19 CLAY &emsp;&emsp;0 OREGON – Findlay High's boys lacrosse team swamped Oregon Clay with a deluge of goals on Wednesday when the Trojans cruised to a record-setting 19-0 Northern Lakes League win over the Eagles. Cam Wight and Noah Gaberdiel scored three goals each and Henry Iten scored two goals and assisted on five as Findlay set records for goals and points in a match. Jake Neat and Jaron Clark both netted two goals, with MJ Greenawalt, Marcus Dornbush, Jamie Tate, Jacob Meier, Draven Wilson, Tate Sprague and Griffin Lane all scoring one. Wight and Will Hammer both added two assists; Neat, Greenawalt, Dornbush and Luke Smith tacked on one each. Lane was 11-of-16 on face-offs and led Findlay's defense with five ground balls. Hudson Yeager, Hammer, Neat and Clark all had three ground balls. Goalies Cashel West (2) and Julius Rudecki needed to make just three total saves in earning the shutout over winless Clay (0-4, 0-2 NLL). Findlay won its third straight and improved to 3-1 heading into today's match with Ottawa Hills. The contest will be played at Donnell Stadium with a 6 p.m. starting time. (14-sub head) Findlay baseball MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Findlay High's baseball team took two Tennessee teams to the wire, but both used last-inning rallies to post one-run wins over the Trojans during their spring baseball trip south. Maryville nipped Findlay on Wednesday, pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 10-9 win over the Trojans. On Tuesday, Gibbs High School, Tennessee's Class AA state champion in 2010 and again in 2021, got a one-hitter by 6-foot-2 senior right-hander Owen Porter in winning the opening game 10-0. The Eagles scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off 6-5 win in the second contest. Seven-run innings highlighted Wednesday's matchup. Findlay scored seven runs in the third inning to take an 8-1 lead. Maryville scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth to go up 9-8. Findlay tied it with a run in the seventh, before Maryville won it in the ninth. Lead-off hitter Jackson Flechtner (2-1B, 2B, RBI), junior third baseman Cole Hull (2-1B, 2B, RBI) and junior pitcher Cooper McKannna (3-1B) all had three hits for Findlay. Hunter Sertell drove in two runs with a single and a double and Caleb Kanney tripled. Luke Crates, Blade Wendt and Grant Emans added RBI singles. Tallen VanOrtwick (3-1B, 2 RBI) and Gavin DiBartolomeo (2-1B, 2B) both had three hits for Maryville (11-6-1). Reece Stillings was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double, drove in a run and scored another in Tuesday's second game. Wendt drove in three runs for the Trojans, who trailed 5-1 after five innings but scored one run in the top of the sixth and added three in the seventh to tie the game 5-5. William Price and Lucas Duncan had a single and a home run each for Gibbs, with Price driving in three runs and Duncan two. Tucker Ownby, who had a triple and two singles in the first game, also had two hits for the Eagles. Price started and went six innings for Gibbs, giving up two runs on five hits and striking out nine. Sertell, the third of three Findlay pitchers, took the loss. Findlay, 1-3, will take on Alcoa today before heading home. The Trojans host Defiance in their home opener on Monday. (14-sub head) Swimming GREENSBORO, N.C. – Findlay's Tillie Abbott posted a time of 1:57.06 in the 200-yard freestyle on Wednesday and placed 71st in her division at the YMCA National Swimming Championships being held in Greensboro N.C. The top 24 swimmers in each event advanced to the A, B, C and D finals. Anne Dickinson, representing the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis., topped those qualifiers and won the national title with a time of 1:47.65. Abbott will be competing in her stronger events, the 50- and 100-yard freestyles, today and Friday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
