The numbers prove what we already know

New statewide research confirms what Findlay-Hancock County patrons already know — public libraries are among the most trusted, widely used, and valued services in their communities. The January 2026 Ohio voter survey found overwhelming support for libraries across the state, with residents saying they rely on library services for learning, job support, digital access, and everyday needs. We see this reflected in your use of the library every day. In 2025, you visited FHCPL 208,611 times, checking out over 1 million library items. You asked over 80,000 questions and connected with our public PCs or WiFi nearly 50,000 times. FHCPL offered 894 opportunities to interact with library programming last year, many in partnership with other community organizations you know and love. You took advantage of those opportunities 65,500 times. Across Ohio, libraries log more than 48 million visits annually, and more than 7 million Ohioans hold library cards. Ohio libraries rank second in the nation in visits per capita. Libraries support residents by helping children learn, assisting job seekers, providing technology access, offering practical services like printing, faxing and meeting rooms and serving as welcoming community spaces. We are places residents turn when they need help, answers, opportunity, or connection. The statewide research shows public support for libraries is broad and measurable: · 90% of Ohioans say libraries are important to their community · 69% recall a specific time their library helped them personally · 71% say libraries provide many of the basic services people rely on · 87% say they receive good value for the taxes they pay for library services · Nearly two-thirds report using library services recently As a lifelong library user, these results come as no surprise. As a library director, it is gratifying to see my fellow Ohioans join me in valuing libraries as essential services that support education, employment, and community connection.
