United Way names Secor Scholar

FINDLAY — United Way of Hancock County's Secor Scholarship committee has named Neeti Barot as this year's United Way Foundation Secor Scholar. The daughter of Trushna Brahmbhatt and Gautam Barot, Neeti plans to pursue a career in biochemical engineering. She was chosen from dozens of local candidates based on her academic accomplishments, her volunteerism, and her leadership in various school and extracurricular activities. Neeti is a senior at Findlay High School, where she serves as president of the Key Club and secretary of the Red Cross Club. During her tenure, these clubs have led successful food drives, planned teacher appreciation events and helped organize six blood drives. She has participated in Ethics Bowl competitions for three years; was co-group captain of the Robotics Team; and is a member of Student Council and We The People. She is a four-year varsity outdoor track and field athlete specializing in pole vault, and is a school record-holder for indoor track and field pole vault. She also played junior varsity and varsity soccer for four years, earning a letter and contributing to a sectional championship. Barot is a member of National Honor Society. She served as a teaching assistant at Findlay High School Art Camp for two years; is a four-year assistant coach with Findlay High School Mini Kickers; and has volunteered with Camp World, Camp Discovery and Special Olympics. She works at Blanchard Valley Hospital. The Secor Scholarship is a $2,000 award, renewable for four years for a total of $8,000, and a memorial to the Steven and Doris Secor bequest. It is awarded annually to a high school senior living in Hancock County.
