Trojans top BG, move to 4-0

GREEN 1FINDLAY – Findlay High's softball team averaged over 11 runs a game in starting the 2026 season 4-0.In running their winning streak to five, the Trojan showed they can win with pitching and defense, too.Junior right-hander Emily Cole scattered seven hits over seven innings, gave up just one run and Findlay played nearly errorless defense in scratching out a 3-1 Northern Lakes League victory over Bowling Green. Cole struck out four and walked just one in earning her first win in two starts this season.Bowling Green freshman Arianny Miller belted Cole's first pitch for a solo home run. Cole's pitching and some heads-up defensive plays silenced BG's offense the rest of the game.In the third inning, Miller doubled, but was later thrown out at the plate. And with Findlay leading 3-1 in the seventh, Miller was intentionally walked to load the bases. BG's Lily Warner then hit a liner to right-center that Ryan Boes ran down for the final out.Findlay tied the game 1-1 on Emma George's ground out in the bottom of the first inning. Monika Kerwin led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, her third of the season. Natalie Steffes added an RBI single to put the Trojans up 3-1.Addie Sprang had three hits and Kerwin had two for Findlay, which will play Minster and St. Marys Memorial in a round-robin tripleheader today in St. Marys.B. ELMWOOD 5LAKE 0MILLBURY – Elmwood ace Addi Hoffman pitched a five-hit shutout and the Royals beat Lake 5-0 in a battle of softball unbeatens on Friday.Hoffman struck out three, walked two and faced just 27 batters in the seven-inning game. Bristol Evans knocked in two runs with a single and a double. MONROEVILLE 6CAREY 4CAREY – Monroeville built a 6-2 lead through six innings and weathered a Carey comeback in the bottom of the seventh to beat the Blue Devils 6-4.Payton Weilnau had two singles, a triple and scored three times and Alayna Tyler doubled and drove in two runs for the Eagles, a perennial power that has been Ohio's small-school state runner-up in 2024 (Division IV) and again in 2025 (Division VII).Carey starting pitcher Tylinn Stoll gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out four and walked five. She also singled, doubled and drove in three Carey runs.
