Findlay boys, girls teams upend Harding

FINDLAY – Findlay High's boys and girls track teams did open their 2026 seasons with wins over Marion Harding on Thursday. Team scores and individual and relay results that appeared in Friday's paper, though, were incorrect.Senior speedster Dominic Smith was a four-event winner and Russell Stine and Maysen Hetrick factored in three wins each in helping Findlay High's boys team beat Marion Harding 85-39.Smith swept the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.33 seconds and the 200 (23.61) by a fraction over Marion Harding's Drake Holbrook (23.64). Smith, Hetrick and Carter Imke were also three-fourths of the winning 400 and 800 relays, joining Soni Hines on the 4-x-100 (44.22) and Jediah Scott on the 4-x-200 (1:33.91).A third-place finisher in the 3,200 meter run at the 2025 Northern Lakes League meet, Stine led a near 1-2-3 Findlay photo finish in the 1,600, posting a time of 4:44.58 to edge teammates Tyler Strabley (4:44.87) and Camden Stechschulte (4:45.27). Stine, Strabley and Stechschulte were also on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams, with Jack Zoll rounding out the 1,600 (3:48.98) and Lucas Parnell completing the 3,200 (8:27.15) lineup.Hetrick, last year's runner-up in the NLL long jump, won that event with an impressive leap of 20-1½ in his first meet of 2026.Zoll also won the 400 (53.20), Jake Best was first in the 800 (2:17.47) and Charlie Ernst captured the 300 hurdles (45.94). In addition to Hetrick's win in the long jump, Findlay got field events firsts from Scott in the high jump (5-6) and Tate Richards in the discus (119-8).Josey Weihrauch's three first-place efforts led Findlay to a 78-53 win over Marion Harding's girls team.Weihrauch won the 200 (26.99) and ran on two first-place relays joining Katelynn Carpenter, Mya Hammer and Baylee LaMaster on the winning 400 relay (51.69) and Hammer, Megan Guthrie and Lainie Clevenger on the 1,600 (4:28.12).Kelsey Ferguson won the 100 hurdles (18.90) and was a close seconds (58.84) to the winning time of 57.53 by teammate Addison Lobb. Anika Helms was first in the 400 (1:06.54) and Guthrie captured the 800 (2:41.94).Findlay was first in three of the five field events, with Madison Wheeler winning the discus (114-0), Carpenter the long jump (15-5½) and Neeti Barot the pole vault (8-0). L-B RelaysFINDLAY – Columbus Grove won the girls team title and Liberty-Benton placed third in the boys standings at the Liberty-Benton Relays on Thursday.Devanie Pingle, Liv Mayberry, Kendal Palte and Jade Roeder posted a winning time of 4:05.08 in the 1,600 relay. Nicole Nesby helped Grove place first in both the shot and discus relays as the Bulldogs outscored Fremont Ross 112-88 for first place. Bluffton was fourth (61) and Liberty-Benton sixth (26) among the seven schools in the meet.In the boys portion of the meet, Liberty-Benton's Jack Hochstettler and Hudson Day helped both the 1,600 relay (3:26.00) that included Braden Bell and Karson Griffin and 6,400 relay (19:16.00) that included Aiden Lee and Cohen Levenhagen to first place finishes.Led by a 1-2 finish by Trevon Baxter (22-5) and Gavin Baxter (21-6), Columbus Grove won the boys long jump relay. Otsego RelaysTONTOGANY – Van Buren's Easton Wymer had the top throws in both the shot and discus and Kaitlyn Homan, Graci Harrington, Sophia Webster and Bryar Kendrick placed first with a time of 11:13.2 in the 3,200 relay to highlights the Knights winning the girls team title at the Otsego Relays.Wymer, who was fifth in the shot and second in the weight throw at the state indoor meet in March, had throws of 37-7 in the shot put and 133-1 in the discus. Van Buren scored 88 points to edge Otsego (87) by one point and Elmwood by four in the girls team standings.In the boys portion of the meet, Van Buren's Brooks Hill (12-0) and Gavin Fruth (11-0) were 1-2 in the pole vault competition.Van Buren also finished first in two relays with Carson Stone, Cooper Hanna, Gavin Hartman and Cooper Bahn winning the 800 relay (1:37.3) and Carter Finley, Carter Fry, Griffin Ware and Ramone Johnson capturing the 3,200 (8:52.1).
