Saito scores nine goals, Findlay tops Buckeye Valley

VALLEY 6FINDLAY – Mihaya Saito scored a record-tying nine goals in leading Findlay High's girls lacrosse team to a 16-6 win over Buckeye Valley on Saturday.A senior midfielder, Saito also had two assists, four caused turnovers and three draw controls in the contest.Greta Zaciewski added three goals and Noah Tesner had two. Josylin Hunt and Isabelle Speer rounded out the scoring for the Trojans, who won their second straight and improved to 3-1 heading into today's Northern Lakes League match at Sylvania Southview.Tesner and Ellison Rader both had seven draw controls against Buckeye Valley, with Rader adding an assist as well. MARYS – Senior right-hander Natalie Steffes pitched one of her strongest games of the season and battery mate Addie Sprang continued her assault on another school hitting record when Findlay blanked St. Marys Memorial 7-0 on Saturday.Steffes allowed just three hits, struck out seven and walked two in pitching a complete game shutout. Sprang, a senior catcher who is hitting .682 (15-for-22) through six games, was 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. Her third-inning RBI double gave Findlay a 1-0 lead and moved her within one of tying the school record for two-base hits.Emily Cole and Addison Hartman delivered RBI singles during a four-run fifth-inning rally that padded Findlay's lead to 5-0. Vick, a junior, started his day by knocking off Orrville's Aaden Miller, 8-2, in the quarterfinal. Barger, a senior, recorded an 8-1 victory over Shelby's Josiah Graves. In the semis, Vick fell to Brunswick's Tyler Berg, 8-4. Barger was tripped by Ashland's Harold Song in a close match, 7-7 (8-6). The Trojans' No. 2 singles player, Aiden Buddelmeyer, lost his quarterfinal match to Ashland's David Swartzentruber, 8-4. Buddelmeyer, a junior, bounced back to claim his consolation match, topping Shelby's Eason Gao, 8-1. Each of FHS's doubles teams lost their first match. The Trojans' No. 1 duo of senior Tyler Asel and Noah Klink were topped by Marion Harding's Reagan Tway and Jeffrey Stimson, 8-2. Asel and Klink also fell in their consolation match, 8-4, to Orrville's Rhys Coleman and Duane Vodika, 8-4.
