FHS rally falls short against Defiance

BASEBALL DEFIANCE 5FINDLAY 4FINDLAY – Defiance built a 5-0 lead after three innings, then weathered one comeback bid after another in holding off Findlay 5-4 on Monday in the Trojans 2026 home opener at Woody Curlis Field.Cole Hull had a single and a double to account for two of Findlay's six hits. Cooper McKanna also had a double for the Trojans, who were 2-3 on their spring baseball trip before Monday's home opener.Findlay outhit the Bulldogs 6-5, but four walks and Trojans lone error of the game opened the door for a four-run third inning.Trailing 5-0, Findlay chipped away at Defiance's lead with one run in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and another in the sixth. Reliever Jace Brownlee shut Findlay down in the bottom of the seventh, though, earning the save. SOFTBALL FINDLAY SOUTHVIEW SYLVANIA – Sylvania Southview did not have a single win when Findlay came to town for Monday's Northern Lakes League matchup.But the Cougars did have Kaiya Jacobs, and on this day that was enough.Jacobs was 4-for-5 and belted two home runs, the second a game-winning three-run blast in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave Southview a 14-11 walk-off win over the Trojans. The Southview sophomore also doubled in a run in the first inning, hammered a two-run homer in the fifth, and earned the pitching win with four ultimately effective innings of relief despite being tagged for nine hits and five runs.In a back-and-forth game, Findlay tied it 2-2 on Addie Sprang's RBI single in the top of the third inning, went up 6-3 when RBI singles by Sprang and Laine Boes and a sacrifice fly by Davinee Harris sparked a four-run rally in the fourth, overcame a 7-6 deficit with RBI singles from Natalie Steffes and Ryan Boes in the sixth, and padded the cushion to 11-7 with two runs in the seventh.Sprang was 4-for-4 and drove in five runs. GIRLS LACROSSE FINDLAY 10SOUTHVIEW 5SYLVANIA – Mihaya Saito, coming off a school-record nine-goal game in Saturday's 16-6 girls lacrosse romp over Buckeye Valley, added another four goals on Monday when Findlay beat Sylvania Southview 10-5 for its third straight win of the season.Ellison Rader and Ava Cooper added two goals each and Josylin Hunt had a goal and an assist.
