Vikings trounce Rockets, Henry collects 400th win

LEIPSIC 15P-GILBOA 6PANDORA – Some thunder and lightning delayed Darren Henry's date with destiny, but it could not stop it as Leipsic's baseball coach achieved his 400th career win with Monday's 15-6 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Pandora-Gilboa.Leipsic upped its record to 4-3 overall and remained unbeaten in BVC games at 3-0. P-G dropped to 1-3, 1-2 in the BVC.In his 25 seasons as Leipsic head coach, Henry has compiled a 400-213 record and guided the Vikings to six Putnam County League and four Blanchard Valley Conference titles. He has been named PCL Coach of the Year five times and BVC Coach of the Year on three occasions, most recently in 2021 when he guided the Vikings to a 9-1 league record and a share of the conference crown.Henry has also guided Leipsic to 17 sectional and seven district championships. SANDUSKY 1CAREY – Carey ace Garrett Hall gave up just one run on four hits on Monday when the Blue Devils edged Upper Sandusky 2-1 in a battle between two rivals looking to hold onto at least a piece of first place in the Northern 10 Conference baseball standings.A sophomore left-hander who was first-team all-NLL his freshman year, Garrett entered the game with a 3-0 record and 1.14 ERA. He struck out nine on Monday, and pitched shutout ball until Upper Sandusky punched across its lone run in the top of the sixth inning.David Hall had the big hit for Carey. The junior first baseman delivered a two-run double in the second inning, giving the Blue Devils the lead – and the margin of victory – they would need to improve to 7-2 overall and remained tied with Seneca East (6-0, 3-0 N10) atop the N10 standings.Josh Heilman provided Upper Sandusky with excellent pitching as well. A 6-foot-2 senior right-hander who entered the game with a 1-1 record an ERA of 1.50, Heilman gave up just two hits, struck out eight and did not walk a batter.
