Undefeated Elmwood races past Patriots

ELMWOOD 19 P. HENRY 5 HAMLER – Elmwood's dominance continued Tuesday, as the undefeated Royals piled up 14 hits over five innings in a 19-5 drubbing of Patrick Henry. The Royals improved to 12-0. The top three hitters in the Elmwood lineup – Trinity Sanders, Libbie Tyson and Leah Allison – had a combined seven hits and drove in six runs. Bristol Evans singled, walked and drove in four runs. Mackayla Casey singled twice, scored three times and plated two runs, while Maddy Campbell singled twice, scored twice and drove in two runs. Cheyanne Podach started in the circle and allowed five runs, three earned, in four innings. She allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked three. Elmwood scored at least two runs in all five innings, and pushed across nine in the top of the fifth. Patrick Henry's Elisiana Wyand went 2 1/3 innings in the circle, allowing four runs, three earned on six hits. She walked two and struck out one in taking the loss. At the plate, Wyandt doubled, singled and scored twice. Summer James had two hits, a run scored and two RBIs. Patrick Henry slipped to 5-4. The Pirates put up two runs in the first and five in the second to take control. Gracie Homier struck out seven and walked one to pick up the win. The Tornadoes – who came in 0-7 – scored six runs in the fifth inning. They led 10-8 going to the seventh. Van Buren's Jordan Patton doubled, singled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs. Audrey Riegle went 4 for 5 at the plate – including a double – and also drove in three runs. The Tornadoes used three pitchers, with Gabby Shock getting the win. Shock went two innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits. Avery Beall pitched for the Black Knights and went the whole way, allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs. She walked one and struck out six. Van Buren dropped to 4-5. N. BALTIMORE 26 PERRY 5 NORTH BALTIMORE – This one was over early. After yielding a run to Lima Perry in the top of the first inning, North Baltimore answered with 13 in the bottom half, and rolled to a 26-5 win. The Tigers connected on 16 base hits Monday; the Commodores committed 10 errors. Jayme Zeigler went 4 for 4 at the plate and knocked in six runs for the Tigers. Avery Benedict had three singles, scored four times and added four RBIs. Rylee Keller and Allena Leonard each drove in three runs for North Baltimore. Lennard pitched the first two innings for the win. She struck out four, and allowed two hits and an unearned run. Madelyn Bodine doubled, singled and drove in two runs for the Commodores. The Tigers have won four of five, and improved to 7-5. It was their second consecutive rout after defeating Waynesfield-Goshen, 15-3 Monday. Staten went six innings and allowed only one hit, a single to the Eagles Kylie Modd. Staten walked two and struck out 16. Megan Gerken threw six innings for Liberty-Benton, striking out one and walking two. She allowed eight hits. Bryan improved to 8-0; Liberty-Benton fell to 8-5. ARLINGTON 11 RIVERDALE 10 ARLINGTON – The game was close after one inning, and it stayed that way. Riverdale scored four runs in the top of the first inning, only to see Arlington answer with four in the bottom half. But Arlington, behind a solo homer from Dala Taulbee, a four hit day from Gracie Schutz and a three hit day from Mireya Velazquez, was able to do just enough to escape with an 11-10 Blanchard Valley Conference victory. Velazquez doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs. Schutz scored twice and plated two runs as the Red Devils improved to 2-6, 1-1 in the conference. Velazquez pitched five innings to pick up the win, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out two and walking four. Ellie Marquart – who singled and drove in two runs – pitched the final two innings, allowing four runs on six hits, two secure the win. Riverdale (3-6, 1-2 BVC) got a triple, a double and two RBIs from Addi Manns, who was also the losing pitcher. Dylann Thacker added two hits while driving in two runs. For the Pirates (2-6), Elana Navarro doubled, singled twice, scored and drove in a run, and Evelyn Boyles doubled, singled and had an RBI. Leipsic managed just a pair of singles (one each from Kendall Wagler and Meredith Goodwin), off Miller City starting pitcher Karlee Gilgenbach. Gilgenbach pitched five innings, striking out nine and walking two. The Wildcats (6-4) scored in each of the five innings. Leipsic slipped to 1-7.
