Steffan no-hitter highlights BVC baseball play

LEIPSIC &emsp;&emsp;18 VANLUE &emsp;&emsp;0 LEIPSIC – Leipsic freshman Cole Steffan fired a five-inning no-hitter on Wednesday in the Vikings 18-0 Blanchard Valley Conference win over Vanlue. Steffan walked two, struck out 11and faced just 17 batters in the five-inning game. Steffan also doubled and drove in three runs as Leipsic, 5-4 overall, remained unbeaten in BVC games at 4-0. Mill Paniaqua had two base hits, Maddox Newell and Lucas Eding had a single each and all three drove in two runs. Arcadia got a perfect relief effort from Owen Smith, who set down all seven batters he faced. Colin Nusser doubled and drove in two runs and Aiden Lynch had two hits for Arcadia (4-4, 2-3 BVC). Jayden Rickard, Avari Grimshaw and Lamarion Tucker all added RBI singles for the Redskins. Owen Karacher had two singles, a double and drove in three runs for Riverdale (1-7, 0-3 BVC). ADA &emsp;&emsp;&emsp;6 ARLINGTON &emsp;1 ARLINGTON -- Mason Wibley and Robert Shanks combined on a four-hitter in pitching Ada to a 6-1 BCVC win over Arlington. Shanks pitched 4-1/3 innings of hitless relief for Ada (6-3, 2-2 BVC). Logan Fleece drove in two runs for the Bulldogs. Nicholas Clark also pitched three hitless innings for Arlington (0-7, 0-3 BVC). FHS Athletics FINDLAY – A number of Findlay High students announced where they will be competing athletically at the next level by signing national letters of intent or NCAA Division III student-athlete celebratory forms on Wednesday. Delaney Harris signed to play volleyball at Heidelberg, Lance Miller will play football at Adrian College in Michigan, and Cam Wight will continue his lacrosse career at Lawrence Technological University, an NAIA school, also in Michigan. Wight was first-team all-Northern Lakes League as a junior and is having the kind of season that could earn him repeat honors, scoring 19 goals and adding eight assists for a Findlay team that is 7-2 overall and leading the NLL standings at 5-0. A four-year letterman in lacrosse, Wight, who also played hockey for FHS, has career totals of 54 goals and 18 assists. A multi-sport athlete who also captains the FHS softball team, Harris led the Trojans volleyball team with 50 service aces. She was also second on the team in digs (366) and assists (272). Miller played both ways for the Findlay High football team at running back and defensive back. He rushed for 153 yards and one touchdown, a 59-yard burst that was the clinching score in the Trojans 17-7 win over Lima Senior. Playing cornerback on defense, he had 16 tackles.
