H-L edges Arcadia in slugfest

BASCOM – After an 11-10 win Monday over Lakota after an Araceli Velasquez walk-off homer, Velasquez was at it again Thursday. She belted two dingers, driving in five runs and held on to get the win in the circle as the Chieftains clipped Arcadia 13-12.Arcadia led 5-0 after an inning, but after a Rowan Clagg grand slam, H-L got to within 5-4 after two and then grabbed a 13-9 lead after five. The Redskins made things interesting in the seventh with three runs, but Velasquez shut the door. She went all seven innings, giving up 12 runs (three earned) on 13 hits. She fanned seven on 132 pitches.In the victory Monday, the Chieftains overcame 11 errors, while Thursday's win they had to overcome seven miscues. Clagg also doubled for the Chieftains (5-7), while driving in five runs, followed by Aubrey Cline (2-2B, 2 RBI), Hollie Bozo (2B, RBI), Mallory Rowe (2B), Katherine Wagner and Erin Daniel all produced two hits. The Eagles survived a late scare by the Bulldogs, as Ada scored four of its six runs in the top of the sixth inning. Lauren Erdeljac also homered for the Eagles, hitting a single and driving in three runs. Carley Schwab doubled, singled, and recorded one RBI.
