Litter pick up and Seed Library this week at the library

The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library is offering the following programs from April 19 - 25: Starting Monday, the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership and the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library have partnered together to host a week-long litter clean-up to acknowledge Earth Day. Litter clean-up kits will be available to check out at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library information desk and at the Arlington Branch Library. Each kit contains everything you need to pick up litter safely! Simply check out a litter clean-up kit for 2-3 hours at a time. Pick up litter in your yard, your neighborhood, or anywhere in your community, using the materials provided in your litter clean-up kit. Then, return your litter clean-up kit to the library for the next participant! At 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday in the Lindamood Room, Miss Nicole presents Storytime. We will sing, rhyme, and read, then craft and enjoy activities together with a new theme each week. Your child will have so much fun they might not even realize they are learning important skills for future reading! This week's theme is Storytime Favorites. This program's content is geared to preschool-aged children with a caregiver. Please plan to attend and be engaged with your child/children for this program. On Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m., we invite local teens to get creative at Teen Craft Night. Designed for students in grades 6–12, this hands-on program offers participants the chance to design and personalize their own memo holders—perfect for organizing notes, photos, or reminders. The event provides a fun, relaxed environment where teens can explore their creativity, connect with peers, and take home a practical, handmade creation. Register at findlaylibrary.org/events. Don't miss the opportunity to hear Marian Schembari discuss her book, A Little Less Broken: How an Autism Diagnosis Finally Made Me Whole, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Lindamood Room. Copies of the book will be available, plus a book signing after the presentation. Participants will also have the opportunity to win a door prize. Ms. Schembari is this year's BIG Read speaker at Owens Community College. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and Good Housekeeping. This is a free public event. Mini Meet-up takes place at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and Friday in the Early Literacy Center in the Children's Department. This is a free playtime opportunity for little ones to socialize and explore new games, toys, and activities that are educational and fun while meeting other families. This program is for infants to 36 months with their caregivers. Older siblings are welcome. Starter Storytime will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and Friday in the Lindamood Room. Miss Nicole will lead families in singing, rhyming, reading and having fun with scarves and instruments. This program is suggested for children up to 36 months of age with a caregiver. Older siblings are welcome, too. Storytime at Arlington takes place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Arlington Branch of the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. Children can enjoy some reading fun, songs, crafts, and socialization with other children. This week's theme is pajama party. On Wednesday at 2 p.m., those registered at libraryc.org/findlaylibrary will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual discussion with bestselling and award-winning author Miranda Cowley Heller, as she takes us on an intimate journey through the life stages of a woman in her new poetry collection, What the Deep Water Knows. Delicate, yet exceedingly raw, these poems will transport you as vividly as any work of fiction. More information about the author and the book are available at findlaylibrary.org/events. This program is presented in partnership with the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts. Teens are invited to step into a world of teamwork and imagination as we explore the world of D&D. Whether you are new or an experienced adventurer looking for new campaigns to join, players with all levels of experience are welcome. Each month will bring a new one-shot campaign and materials will be provided alongside guidance from an experienced game leader. Adventure awaits! Space is limited and registration is required on our website. This program is for teens in grades 6 – 12. Children in grades 2 – 8 are invited to register for Drawing Club, taking place on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Lindamood Room. This month, we will be exploring the color wheel with a fun springtime umbrella drawing. Families with children ages birth – 36 months are invited to attend Saturday Starter Storytime at the library, a program designed to promote early literacy and a lifelong love of reading, at 10 a.m. in the Lindamood Room. This interactive program features a variety of activities including singing, rhyming, shared reading, and creative play with scarves and musical instruments. Caregiver participation is an essential part of the experience, and attendees are encouraged to actively engage with their children throughout the program. Saturday Starter Storytime offers families an opportunity to connect, learn, and build foundational literacy skills in a welcoming community setting. Browse and pick from over 300 varieties of free seeds—including native and heirloom selections—along with helpful gardening supplies. Learn how the Seed Library works, connect with other local gardeners, and get inspired for the growing season ahead.
