4‑H Youth step into Spring

As April turns to May, 4‑H members across our community are stepping into one of the busiest and most meaningful seasons of their year. Spring isn't just about warmer weather and longer days, it's a time when 4‑H youth put their skills, leadership, and service into action in ways that make a real difference close to home. With new projects beginning and summer activities on the horizon, this season highlights what 4‑H does best: helping young people grow through hands‑on learning and community involvement. For many members, April marks the start of outdoor project work. Garden projects are being planted, livestock projects are beginning their summer routines, and members are setting goals for the months ahead. These projects aren't just about agriculture, they teach responsibility, planning, patience, and the importance of caring for living things. Whether a member is tending to a first‑year garden or preparing an animal for the fair, spring is a time when learning becomes real and visible. As school winds down, 4‑H teen leaders are stepping up in big ways. Club officers are organizing meetings, leading demonstrations, and mentoring younger members who are just beginning their 4‑H journey. Their leadership helps create welcoming, well‑run clubs where youth of all ages can learn and grow. This year, thirty‑four Hancock County teens are also preparing and serving as camp counselors for the upcoming 4‑H camp. These teens will guide younger campers through outdoor skills, STEM activities, team‑building challenges, and the traditions that make camp a highlight of the summer. Their commitment reflects the confidence, communication skills, and sense of responsibility that 4‑H works to build. Spring is also a season of service for many clubs. From park and community clean‑ups to food drives and visits to local care centers, 4‑H members are finding ways to give back. These projects remind youth that leadership isn't just about holding a title, it's about making a positive impact on the people and places around them. As we move from April into May, the energy and enthusiasm of 4‑H members set the tone for a season of growth. With projects underway and summer activities approaching, 4‑H youth are proving once again that they are ready to learn, lead, and serve their community.
