Alumni returning to help BCS students

OAK HARBOR — Bright minds who graduated from Oak Harbor High School will return to help its current students. Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools will host an alumni feedback event on Dec. 20 in Oak Harbor High School. College students and other graduates will be available for high school students with questions about post-graduation. "This is a great opportunity to connect our students with graduates who can give some real insight into their careers and college experience," said Guy Parmigian, superintendent for Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools. "This will be a great way for students to learn about opportunities and how to overcome challenges."Students past and present will enjoy a luncheon provided by the school. Participants will meet outside the high school auditorium. The event, which existed several years ago, was something school officials wanted to bring back. "We want to try it again with our junior and senior students," said Cheryl Schell, principal at Oak Harbor High School. "The graduates can give our students some valuable insight. They've been there and done that."She continued: "It will be more meaningful to hear something from someone you used to know from school."As for teachers, Schell said she hopes this event will provide her colleagues with valuable insight into how they can improve the education experience. "I want to hear some feedback from graduates," Schell said. "Now that they've moved on, I want to hear what worked and what didn't. That will help us as we plan for the future."
