L-B knocks off Royals, remains unbeaten in BVC

BASEBALL L-B 11 ELMWOOD 3 FINDLAY -- Elmwood and Liberty-Benton came into Monday's BVC showdown undefeated in conference games. But the Eagles, behind two RBIs from Corbin Schworm and a strong pitching effort from Jackson Knepper, were able to win comfortably, 11-3. Elmwood (5-6, 4-1 BVC) committed eight errors in the loss. The Eagles (8-2, 4-0 BVC) Elmwood's scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back. Connor Barbara singled and drove in two runs, while Kooper Leatherman doubled. Knepper threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, and striking out four. Leatherman, who pitched 1 1/3 innings, didn't allow a run and struck out four. Scott pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two runs, though only one was earned. He stuck out 11 and didn't walk a batter. Wood pitched a perfect sixth, fanning two. Marshall Capps doubled, scored twice and drove in a run for the Commodores. Sucarious Doughty singled twice, scored and had two RBIs. Shyler Ludwig pitched the first two innings for the Hornets, allowing six runs on three hits. Only three runs were earned. He struck out two and walked two. The junior singled, doubled, scored twice and had two RBIs as the Vikings improved to 6-5, 5-0 in the BVC. Aaron Hazelton doubled and drove in two runs for Leipsic, while John Dewar doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run. The Vikings starting pitcher, Mill Paniagua, threw four shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five. For Ada (6-6, 2-4 BVC) Xavier Smith singled twice. McComb leadoff hitter Luke Kern doubled twice, scored four times and drove in a run for the Panthers, while Kahle Drown tripled, singled, scored twice and had an RBI. Jace Wartgow singled twice, scored and drove in two runs. Camden Wain doubled and scored twice for the Panthers, while Cameron Smith tripled, scored twice and drove in a run. Grant Schaublin started on the mound for McComb, and got the win by going three innings, allowing two hits and a run. He struck out nine and walked one. Vanlue's Toby Reed took the loss on the mound, though five of the 10 runs he allowed were unearned. He struck out two and walked four. Reed also singled and scored twice for the Wildcats. RIVERDALE 8 P-G 6 MOUNT BLANCHARD – Kydin Reed tripled, singled, scored twice and drove in two runs, and Riverdale scored four runs in the third inning on its way to an 8-6 win over Pandora-Gilboa. It was the Falcons first BVC win after three losses. They improved to 3-9 overall. P-G is 1-5, 1-3 in league games. Carson Vent singled and scored three runs for Riverdale, while Trent Lock hit a double. Jackson Armrose was the winning pitcher for Riverdale, who relieved starter Owen Karcher and threw three scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one. Karcher allowed five runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks. For Pandora-Gilboa, Grady Kempf started on the mound and went six innings, allowing eight runs, three earned. He walked five and struck out seven. He also doubled and drove in three runs, while Nolan Leatherman also doubled, singled and scored twice. Columbian starting Blake Gaulden allowed a double to Finn Martin and five singles in his complete game shutout. He struck out seven and walked one. TC leadoff hitter Jaxson Little tripled and scored twice. Canyn Schofield pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Black Knights, allowing all three runs. He walked three and struck out five, taking the loss. ARLINGTON 5 ARCADIA 4 ARLINGTON – Zander Collins' two-out, bases-clearing single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a four-run Arlington rally as the Red Devils walked off Arcadia, 5-4. Collins drove in four of Arlington's five runs, with Nicholas Clark also singling, scoring and driving in a run. Landon Berno was the winning pitcher and allowed three hits and one earned run to get the win. He struck out three and walked two. The Red Devils improved to 2-8, 1-3 in the Blanchard Valley Conference. The game was tied, 1-1, when the Redskins (4-7, 2-4) scored three runs in the top of the sixth. Blayn Colman had one of Arcadia's three hits, and drove in a run. Lamarion Tucker and Jayden Rickard also had singles for the Redskins. Louis Watkins was the lone Blue Devil (10-2, 4-0) with two hits, while David Hall belted a home run and drove in two run, Garrett Hall doubled and drove in a pair of runs, Bostyn Ritter and Benson Kloepfer each singled and drove in a run and Tyler Rossel ended with an RBI. Hayden Hafner singled and drove in a run for the Bucks (4-7, 1-4). Watkins was the winning pitcher in his complete game. He gave up a run on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Lance Cole took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. H-LOUDON 10 NORTHWOOD 0 NORTHWOOD – Kellen Frankart and Jacoby Ellis combined to twirl a one-hitter with a combined 13 strikeouts in a 10-0 Hopewell-Loudon SBC River win at Northwood. Frankart got the win, allowing the hit, but punching out six and walking one in three innings before Ellis finished things with four hit-less innings. He fanned seven and walked one for H-L (9-4, 4-1). At the plate, Jack Colatruglio (2B, RBI) and Collin Smith (RBI) each recorded two hits, Austin Smith singled and drove in two runs, Brody Brickman doubled and drove in a run and Reiyc Hoover finished with a single and an RBI.
